FIRST COME FIRST SERVE

We provide over 50 separate unserviced campground spaces south of the parking lot in a serene and peaceful locale, with many sites adjacent to Whittier Creek. Every campsite is provided on a “first-come, first-served” basis. Our campground, called “Creekside Campground” after the nearby creek, is open after spring snow runoff (usually before Memorial Day) through early October. Please use the parking lots for day parking, not the campground.


All sites are leveled for the use of recreational vehicles and most have views of the adjacent creek, nearby hills and forested surroundings. Selected campsites accommodate tent camping and others include campfire rings and tables offering a diverse camping experience. We recently installed several extended sites to offer privacy in a unique setting for longer RV and RV-trailered vessel combinations. Single vehicles and tents should avoid these sites, which are intended for RVs only.

Please pay in advance. During 2020 the overnight camping rate continues to be $20.00 per RV or other vehicle, paid at the campground kiosk with handy envelopes, which covers the daily period from noon to noon. Tents with a single vehicle are just $10.00 per night for 1-2 persons and $20.00 per night for three or more persons. There are no reservations for campground sites.

Visitors will find a walking trail along Whittier Creek from Whittier Street south to the high point overlooking the community where visitors can view dramatic, rampaging cascades of water flowing from Whittier Glacier above town (watch your step as the bank can be slippery and steep). Several ponds and waterfalls can also be seen close-up from the trail with seasonal displays of wildflowers and a frequently occupied eagle’s nest. Ask for assistance if you are unsure of the location of the trail and where to look for the eagles. According to local experts, we occasionally have a late fall Silver Salmon run in the lower creek!
