The park is open from dawn until dusk with the gate being closed to traffic each night at 10:00 p.m. Quiet Hours are observed from 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. The Lock & Dam Regional Park at Coosa River Campground in Rome, Georgia is a 73-acre park listed on the National Register of Historic Landmarks. The Mayo Lock and Dam was completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1913 and taken out of service in 1941. The Park is located on the Coosa River south of Rome, Georgia and offers some of the best crappie and striper fishing in North Georgia as well as birdwatching. Also adjoining the Park property is an additional 127 acres known as the Coosa Nature Preserve. The preserve is owned by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and managed by Rome Floyd Parks & Recreation. Lock and Dam offers RV and tent camping. All RV sites have power, water, tables and grills. Select sites feature direct sewer hook-up, river views and pavilions. No one younger than 18 may camp overnight unless accompanied by a responsible adult, who will remain onsite for the period rented. Campers have full access to bath house, laundry facilities, fishing, trails, and nature preserve. For everyone's enjoyment, including pets, please observe the following pet camping rules. Failure to abide by these rules may result in the camper being asked to board the pet outside the park or check out of the campground. • All pets must be confined, leashed, or otherwise under the physical control of a person at all times. Pets must be well-behaved at all times. • In campgrounds, pets must be confined in the owner's camping unit during designated quiet time hours, 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. • At other times, pets may be left unattended on the owner's campsite for no more than 30 minutes and must be leashed. • Pet owners are required to pick up after their pets and properly dispose of all pet droppings in trash receptacles. • Pets that are noisy, vicious, dangerous, disturbing or intimidating to other persons or pets, or which damage park resources, are considered to be nuisances and will not be permitted to remain in the park. Service animals are welcome in all areas of the park where visitors are normally allowed. Additional Amenities Include: • Bathhouse with laundry facilities and restrooms. • Various picnic shelters • River Fishing. • Fishing Pier and Cleaning Station • Boat Access Ramp. • Trading Post with Bait and Tackle Shop as well as picnic supplies and beverages. State Fishing Licenses are sold inside the Trading Post. • A Covered Pavilion available for picnics, family reunions, and special groups. 24 metal picnic tables and grills. Also, a separate covered wooden stage with electricity available for additional charge. Seats 150 people. • Observation Tower overlooking the Coosa River. • Nature Trails. • Primitive group tent camping area, with shelters, fire rings, and restroom facilities. This is a great setting for group gatherings. • Waste Station / Dump Site for grey water and sewage – complimentary dumping included in cost of stay. • Centrally located dumpster.
