About Natural Bridges Beach State Park

At low tide, the tides offer beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean and the rocky coastline of Natural Bridges Beach State Park. Further along the beach, tidal pools offer a glimpse of life at sea, and there are plenty of opportunities to watch the coast play.

Moore Creek flows through the meadow to the sea and forms a wetland in the sand, and the park also includes a small stream, a tidal basin and a sandy beach.

The picnic area is located on the west side of the park, south of Moore Creek, near the entrance to the beach and creek.

Tables, barbecues, taps and toilets are available at the picnic area and Monarch Grove, the park's largest and most popular monarch forest. Monarch's Grove provides temporary homes to more than 100,000 monarchs in winter. From mid-October to the end of February, monarchs form a city of trees in the trees. You can park at Natural Bridges Beach and socialize with your family, friends, family members, neighbors or friends of friends and family.

The mild sea air in the eucalyptus grove provides a safe stay until spring, and the butterflies live in a valley region west of the Rocky Mountains, where there are only plants that eat monarch caterpillars.

Monarch's Grove has been declared the only state monarchy sanctuary in California to protect monarchs and their winter habitat from human interference and damage.

Access to the reserve is restricted by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, California State Parks and other state and local agencies.

The monarchs come in October, and most go through the first week of March, but some last until the end of the month.

The grove consists of eucalyptus trees, which stand in a ravine and offer protection from the wind to the monarchs. The winter-flowering trees are also a convenient source of food for the butterflies. On cool days, when the temperature drops below 60 degrees, they gather in the groves to find food and shelter. And the park has foam beds where visitors can admire monarchy eggs, caterpillars and chrysalis.

Milkweed plants are only eaten by monarch larvae, but for about six months they are the home, supermarket and maternity ward of monarchs. The Natural History Museum at Natural Bridges Beach State Park offers guided tours of the monarch's life cycle and the importance of dairy as a food source.

Visitors can admire the wintering monarchs from a viewing platform in Natural Bridges Beach State Park. Reservations for special events can be made at the Natural History Museum or by booking a large group for the beach tour.
