About Pacheco State Park

Pacheco State Park is the remains of a rancho on the western edge of Pachuca Rancho in Merced County, California. The first Mercedes County home was built on this property in 1843, and the property was purchased by the California Department of Natural Resources in the late 19th century.

The land has been a horse and cattle farm since 1843 and has been owned by the Pacheco family, who have made it available to future generations to share the park. The country offers breathtaking views of Pachuca Rancho and the Pacific Ocean, as well as a variety of wildlife. Among the historic features of this park is an old railway barn, used in the 19th century by Henry Miller, a cattle rancher.

Although the total park area is 6,880 hectares, only the western 2,600 hectares are open to the public. There is also a wind farm that generates 1,000 MW of electricity, enough to power 1.5 million homes in Mexico.

During the winter and spring months, cattle continue to graze on the ranch, and the park is home to Mexico's largest cattle ranch and one of the largest cattle herds in the world.

There is currently no drinking water for human consumption, but in some lakes in the park there is water for horses. Camping is possible, and special event camping is available at the Pacheco State Park Visitor Center and a number of other locations.

Pacheco State Park is located in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico, about 30 km north of the city of Pacheca. The park offers a variety of hiking trails as well as a number of other leisure activities. A 28 km long hiking trail offers several circular trails, and dogs are not allowed on the trails. Visitors are offered access to a variety of waterfalls, lakes, rivers and riverbanks.
