About Fort Griswold Battlefield State Park

Add a touch of reality to your history lesson on the Revolutionary War by visiting the site of a massacre led by the insidious Benedict Arnold. This is the historic site where on September 6, 1781, the US Continental Army and its allies seized the fort and massacred 88 of the 165 defenders stationed there. Ebenezer Avery House, where the wounded were housed during the battle, has been restored to its original location, and a museum dedicated to the Revolutionary War is also on display.

In New London, take I-95S, exit Depot Road, turn right onto Route 1 and continue under the railroad overpass to the parking lot. Take Exit 84S into downtown NewLondon and exit at the intersection of Main Street and Main Avenue, then turn left onto Depot Road.

In New London, turn left onto Route 1 and turn right onto Depot Road, then left into the parking lot at the intersection of Main Street and Main Avenue. Waterway along the water, turn left onto the railway underpass And then straight into Depot Street, past the entrance to the park.

The park is one block away, then turn left on Park Avenue, and second turn right on Park Avenue, and then left on the parking lot at the entrance to the park.

From Clarence B. Sharp Highway, take Exit 87 and turn left into the parking lot at the park entrance, and then right onto Park Avenue. Turn left onto the freeway, then right onto Park Street, then left onto Parkstrasse, and left into a parking lot for Fort Giskard State Park.

Second, turn right on Park Avenue and turn left into the parking lot at the park entrance, Parkstrasse, one block ahead.
