About Sangchris Lake State Park
Sangchris Lake is a state park in Sangamon County, Illinois, USA, and is so called because it spans all Sangamos and Christian circles. It covers 3,022 acres, has 120 miles of coastline and, according to its website, offers a wealth of leisure activities.
Sangchris Lake State Park, a state park in Sangamon County, Illinois, USA, was founded in 1946 when Commonwealth Edison built its first power plant on the lake, which it built to cool a lake during the construction of power plants in Sicily. ComEd transferred 1,414 acres of land around the lake to the state in 1969 to allow boating and fishing. In August 1997, the Department of Natural Resources acquired the land and the rights to fish, boat, swim and other recreational activities for public use.
Today, continuous development and improvements have transformed Sangchris Lake State Park into a popular outdoor retreat. Day visitors are entitled to free parking in the parking lot and underground car park of the State Park. Ask your local office for information on reserving accommodations, and also contact the parking office at (866) 543-5555 for more information on parking and amenities.
The Hickory Point Campground on the eastern jetty has footpaths - car and shower paths to the parking lot and parking spaces for vehicles and showers. Playground equipment, showers and flushing toilets are nearby, and there is a sanitary facility on the riding stable for additional campsites of classes I and II. For longer stays, guests have access to deer trails, picnic area, picnic tables, toilets, water and picnic facilities, as well as a campfire and a fireplace.
Disabled parking spaces are located near the campsites, and group camping is possible in the wilderness office and service building. The campsite is closed on weekends, except for special occasions such as weddings and other special occasions.
The launch pad and jetty Strawkas Point are located on Route 104, and the twin-track launch pad / jetting are located on both the east and west sides of the lake for rowing.
