About McCormicks Creek State Park
This park is located on the east side of the Mississippi River, north of Fort Myers, Florida. Hike through dense forests, hike through beautiful canyons, surrounded by high cliffs, enter unique limestone formations and picturesque waterfalls and much more.
The turning point in the history of McCormick's Creek came in 1888 when Dr. William Denkewalter, a doctor from Fort Myers, Florida, bought part of the area. The original sanitary building, built on what is now the Canyon Inn site, is a white building with a long porch on each side. You will notice the well-kept park that the original owners created and preserved to preserve the peaceful environment they created. Dr. Thought leaders believed that the tranquility of this gorge and the surrounding cliffs would be the perfect place to build a place for the rich and exhausted to escape from everyday life and relax.
The plants, trees and shrubs that they liked offered guests a peaceful respite from everyday life and a place of relaxation. Meanwhile, residents continued to picnic and hike through the gorge, making it a popular place for recreation and relaxation, according to the park's website.
Owen County and Indiana State were interested in keeping McCormick Creek as a backdrop, so they bought the land. The property was auctioned off and McCormicks Creek State Park was inaugurated as Indiana's first state park.
A few years later, in the early 1920s, the building was rebuilt and bricked up, and the Canyon Inn opened its doors in the old sanitary building. The inn still stands on the original foundations of the sanitary building, but subsequent changes have brought about some changes, such as the construction of a new parking lot and garage, as well as improvements to the parking lot.
The Canyon Inn offers a variety of summer and winter activities for families, and activities range from crafts, sports, tournaments and group activities to bridge, euchre and binoculars tournaments.
Satellite TV is also available at the Inn, as well as an outdoor pool, picnic area and picnic tables.
Bridge and Euchre tournaments are held all year round in autumn, winter and spring. Bridge tournaments do not compete for Masters points, but are more competitive than Euchsre and Pinochle T tournaments.
The Canyon Inn publishes a tournament brochure every year, and if you would like a brochure with tournament details, please call the park office at (888) 662-4357 or the Canyon Hotel at (884) 656-5555.
The Canyon Inn also features a leisure center that is open during the summer months, and a leisure center that offers a variety of activities for children and adults, including swimming, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, fishing and much more. The Recreation Center also features an outdoor pool, picnic area, tennis courts and other amenities, as well as a picnic table.
The leisure center is only open in the summer months, but can be rented in spring and autumn, when it is not normally open, for $50 per hour and is only open in the winter months. To make a reservation at the Recreation Center for your group, call the Canyon Inn to talk to the activity manager. Discounts are available at a rate of $5 per person per day or $10 per hour for a group of four or more people.
