Named after the tiny Pennyroyal plants found in the forests surrounding the resort, Pennyripi Forest is the perfect escape from nature. The resort offers a newly expanded 3,000 square meter, 1,500 square meter lodge in an oak and pine forest, complete with pool, spa and outdoor dining.

The rustic Pennyrile Lodge is a 24-room wooden and stone lodge perched on a high cliff overlooking Pennyrile Lake. A limited number of lodge rooms are available for pets, and other activities include hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hiking and camping. Enjoy the beautiful views of the lake and forest, as well as the views from the lodge and pool.

Pennyrile Forest is a showcase of Kentucky's magnificent hardwood trees, which contain more than 2,000 species of trees and more than 1,500 species in the state's forests. Pennyriles Forest State Resort Park, a state park in eastern Kentucky, borders the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Kentucky State Park.

The area has been bordered by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Kentucky State Park since the 1920s, but the government wanted to restore the forest and parched land in the area. Pennyrile State Resort Park, originally called Pennyrile Forest State Park, became part of the Kentucky State Park System on July 9, 1954.

The EPA continued its work in the area until 1937, when the Kentucky Division of State Parks took over responsibility for the land on the basis of an annual agreement. The state has improved facilities and built rustic huts for visitors. In the 1930s, a 300-hectare recreation tract was developed and the state built a rustic cabin for visitors.

This continued until 1954, when the Kentucky Parks System took final control of the Pennyrile site.

Two state parks were established in the area in the 1930s and 1940s, including PennyRIle State Resort Park. The Dawson Springs facility had 457 acres near Outwood Veterans Hospital and State Park on the other side of Dawson Creek, at the intersection of Interstate 65 and I-65.

The University of Kentucky obtained a certificate for the property in 1950 and turned it into a 4-H club camp. Between 1948 and 1955, work continued on the construction of the state spa and park, Pennyrile Lodge, a state hotel and other facilities.

After Lake Beshear was completed in 1962, the area was given a 712-acre lake in Caldwell and Christian Counties. Pennyrile now has 863 hectares of lake and the state plans to build a new lodge on the site of the old state hotel on the lake.

The park has 12 cottages located in the wooded lodge area of the park, as well as two cottages on the property. Each one or two bedroom cottage has unique features and offers lake views, a screened porch and unique amenities.

Dishes, cooking utensils and linen are provided, and fresh linen is provided daily, as well as fresh water, fresh fruits and vegetables and a variety of snacks.

Each campsite has its own picnic area with picnic table, picnic chairs and picnic tables. Enjoy a variety of outdoor activities such as picnics, hiking, camping, fishing or hiking and camping.

The price of a campsite is $15 per night for 2 adults and one additional person up to 16 years receives 3 dollars per night at $3 per night.

Pets are not allowed and may not be kept on the campground, on the grounds of the park or in any other area of Pennyrile Forest State Park.

Next to the lodge is a pool, which is available for accommodation, the holiday home and guests to swim and dive in the pool and other activities.

A large motor boat is not allowed on Pennyrile Lake, but rowing boats with towing engines are available. Fishing is also possible, and you can enjoy fishing, boating, kayaking, canoeing and other outdoor activities in the lakes of the park.

Pennyrile Lake is one of the most popular lakes in Kentucky for fishing and boating, but a Kentucky fishing license is required. Forget your fishing gear, rent a canoe or borrow something from the reception on the jetty. Without a Kentucky fishing license, you can swim, kayak, paddle, canoe, boat or paddle board on Pennyriles Lake.

Accommodation for the year can be rented in advance, and barbecues are available at cabins and campsites. Picnic blankets, tables and playgrounds are located throughout the park, as well as picnic tables, picnic benches and a picnic table on the beach.

For children, there are three playgrounds to remove excess energy, and a new playground is located in the cabin and is accessible all year round. The playground at the campsite is only available for play in the summer months, when all campsites are open and grills are open.

At the park restaurant you can request a table at the bird feeder and watch many of the usual birds while you eat, or request another table nearby. The lake route is probably the best way to see birds all year round, and on our spring walks we often see a number of rose breasts. As we walked the Clifty Creek Trail, we saw a Louisiana Waterdrush bobbing in the creek, as well as many other bird species.

The birds that are often seen in winter include a number of birds of prey, such as cedar - winged big beak, red-nosed vireo and black-eyed sparrows. In summer, roaches - cockroaches and yellow-billed cuckoos - are as common as blackbirds. Cedar wings can also be seen eating the remains of the holly, along with a variety of other bird species, especially the blackbird and the blueberry bird.

Enjoy a relaxation and interpretation programme under the guidance of a full-time recreational supervisor. Daily summer activities are conducted by seasonal recreational staff in collaboration with the Department of Parks and Recreation and the staff of the National Park Service (NPS).

The resort is located on the west side of the park, at the intersection of KY-109 and Kentucky State Route 109. Take the Dawson Springs exit and head south on KY 109 to get to the resort or head east on Kentucky Route 108 to visit the campsites. Accommodation for the year can be rented in advance, and barbecues are available at cabins and campsites. Picnic blankets, tables and playgrounds are distributed in the parks.
