About Grand Isle State Park
More than 280 species of fish are native to the waters off the Grand Isle coast, and seagulls seem to hover in the wind above the coast. Crabs feel like children chasing their nets, within reach, but they're not the only ones.
Grand Isle is a crest created by the waves of the Gulf that serves as an inland channel between the Mississippi tributaries. There are three main rivers, the Grand, Mississippi and Mississippi, each with its own name, but it is the only one of its kind in the state.
In July, a tarpon rodeo attracts thousands of fishermen to the fertile waters off the coast, and surfers catch bacon trout. August also sees the annual Grand Isle Fishing Festival, the state's largest fishing event.
Swimmers use the warm Gulf waters most of the year, but Grand Isle State Park is an excellent place to splash in the surf.
Bird lovers will also enjoy the beauty of the lagoons along the Gulf Coast, and this unique environment attracts numerous bird species and other wildlife. Bring binoculars and cameras to enjoy the unspoilt nature. The visitor centre exhibits the way in which man and nature have shaped the island's unique history.
Whether you're fishing, boating or just relaxing, Grand Isle State Park offers the best of Grand Island. Take a trip to the edge of Louisiana and enjoy the beauty of the Gulf of Mexico, beautiful beaches and spectacular views from the visitor center.
Parking spaces are closed from 6 am to 7 pm on weekends and from 7 am to midnight on weekdays. The car parks are closed on Fridays and Saturdays at 6 am and on Sundays from 9 am to 5 pm.
