About Seneca Creek State Park
The park, which covers more than 6,300 acres, stretches over 14 scenic miles of Seneca Creek that winds along the Potomac River. The Clopper Day Use Area includes many scenic areas, including the picturesque stream and surrounding forests and fields, as well as a picturesque network of paths. Hiking, camping, fishing, kayaking, canoeing and other recreational activities are just some of the activities.
Adventurous hikers can walk the Seneca Creek Greenway Trail along the entire course of the river. Nearby is the Schaeffer Hof hiking area, which offers a variety of hiking trails, as well as a picnic area and picnic tables. A restored 19th-century cabin and a self-guided path along the Potomac River hint at the history of this area.
A lakeside handstart area is available, as well as a picnic area, picnic tables and a self-guided path along the Potomac River. Horse riding, cycling, canoeing on the shallow water, girls fishing in pedal boats, a restored 19th century cottage and much more.
Boat discounts on Clopper Lake rent boats for fishing and recreation from May to September, and private boats are allowed throughout the season.
Seneca Creek is full of trout, as well as a variety of other fish species, such as redfish, bluefin perch and trout. These fish include salmon, pike, bream, perch, shad, chewing mackerel, whitefish and other salmon species.
A picnic pavilion and group picnics can be rented, and a playground is located near the picnic area. The picnic areas and picnic tables at Seneca Creek State Park are open daily from sunrise to sunset.

Hiking and cycling trails cross a variety of habitats, and mountain bikes can be used along the trails. A detailed hiking map is available from the park office, as well as a map of the trail system. Within the park is the Seneca Creek Golf Course, an 18-hole course for amateurs and professionals, covering 32 hectares.
National hunting rules apply (see below for more detailed information). Pets are not allowed in the Clopper Day Use Area and the National Wildlife and Hunting Regulations apply.
