For thousands of years, Washoe Valley and Washoes Lake have been home to many different tribes, including many Native Americans. Logs hibernated in family groups in the valley floor, and elaborate baskets were made from the willows and cattails of the wetlands of Wash. lake. The name Washo comes from the word "Washo," originally written as "Washoe," a combination of two different names for river and lake.

Mormons settled in the Washoe Valley in the early 18th century as part of Utah territory. By 1859, thousands of miners, loggers, and traders were brought to the valley, and by 1858 Mormon settlers had established permanent settlements in Washington County.

The ruins of the New York Mill are still in Little Washoe Lake, and the Ophir Mill can be seen from the highway.

In 1872, the Virginia and Truckee Railroad began operations in the Washoe Valley, connecting Reno with Carson City. Virginia, Tru Creeks and Comstock Mining Company, one of Nevada's largest mining companies, processed ore in the washore and built a number of mines, mills and other industrial facilities along the Nevada-California border in the Wash. valley in response to the mining activity.

By the end of the 1870s, the mining boom was over and the town of Washoe Lake was virtually deserted. The people who were left behind turned to cattle and agriculture and gradually pushed the Washo Indians out of the valley. V.T. ran uninterrupted until the 1950s and then again in the 1960s until it closed in 1970.

Washoe Lake State Park was established to preserve this part of the scenic Washoe Valley for future generations through land and water based recreation. With its rapidly growing urbanization, the park is a treasure to be preserved for its natural beauty, scenic beauty and historical importance.

Camping is only allowed in the main area and several pitches can accommodate campers up to 45 feet in length. Each pitch is equipped with a shady structure and two comfort stations and a shower are available.

There is also a garbage dump in the parking lot of the park, and a garbage dump is available on the west side of Washoe Lake State Park, just next to the main entrance.

There are no limits on campsites for 7 days or 30 days, and there is a parking lot on the west side of Washoe Lake State Park for boats and trailers. The jetties are located on both the east and west sides of the park, near the entrance to the main entrance, directly on the road.

There is no motorised traffic in the park and the use of motorboats is not recommended, but there is a direct boat connection to Little Washoe. Non-motorized trails accommodate hikers, mountain bikers and horse riders, but also hiking trails and picnic areas.

Tickets are available at the park office and information booths in the parks. There are no motorised trails, but they are limited to the Virginia Range in the east of the park. The main area includes a covered barbecue area, picnic areas and riding areas for hikers, mountain bikers and riders, as well as a picnic area for campers.

This area can be reserved for groups of up to 200 people and camping is allowed as long as you have a camper. The facility at the north ramp is only available during the day and offers parking, water and picnic tables, but no camping.
