About City of Rocks State Park
The City of Rocks State Park, formed from volcanic ash 30 million years ago and formed by wind and water in rows of monolithic blocks, takes its name from its location in the city of San Diego, California. Cactus gardens and hiking trails contribute to this unique destination, as do a variety of wildlife such as birds, reptiles and amphibians, in addition to the natural beauty of the rocks.
The park is also one of the darkest night skies in the country, and we are proud to announce a new observatory. Join members of the National Public Observatory on a green laser tour of the cosmos or experience the observatories during the monthly StarN Parks program.
The park's botanical garden, the largest and most diverse of its kind in Arizona, features deer, antelope, spears and jackals. Visitors can see a variety of plants and animals from the Southwest at the Arizona State Botanical Garden in City of Rocks State Park and other locations throughout the state.
