One of Ohio's best fishing lakes awaits athletes from all over Hocking County in Lake Logan State Park. The lake is covered by a 1.5-mile stretch of the Ohio River, north of Lake Erie, and is home to a variety of fish species as well as a variety of other animal species.

Lake Logan State Park is located in the Hocking Valley, formed by the Hocking River. Lake Logan is a great place to take advantage of the park during the day, days when the park offers secluded hiking trails to enjoy the wooded beauty of the hills of Ohio. It is a long time since the Lakeogan region was first lifted from the ancient sea that once covered most of Ohio. This unpolished plateau in the southeast of the state is its oldest landscape, as glaciers have never penetrated the region.

The Hocking River, a tributary of the Ohio River and an important outlet for glacial meltwater, is equipped with important outflows for glacier meltwater. This water deposited leached material from the ancient sea, which strongly influenced the nature and the biological communities that exist today.

The forests of Lake Logan are largely surrounded by oak and hickory associations, and the predominant species are oak, pine, hazelnut, pine, birch and pineapple.

The forest floor is dotted with pine, hazelnut, hickory, oak, birch, pine and pine cones, as well as a number of other species. The soil is surrounded by grasses and shrubs, and some species of wild flowers such as blackberries, peaches, cherries, pears, strawberries and pines.

Lake Logan is home to red, back, white, tail and black bears, coyotes and many other animal species. Many birds visit the area, such as black-footed sparrows, peregrine falcons, jays, owls, bald eagles, falcons, red and blue-tailed falcons, crested tits, spotted woodpeckers, ospreys, ducks, geese, turkeys and other birds. During the migratory flights, various species of waterfowl can be observed, but also birds of prey, from ducks and geckos to sea turtles and sea lions.

Lake Logan is located in Hocking County in southeastern Ohio and was founded in 1816 by Thomas Worthington. The area once belonged to the Wyandot Indians, who had a large village called Oldtown on the Hockings River, about a mile from the town of Logan. Logan was named after the Mingo chief James John Logan, who was known for his first friendship with whites and for the murder of a border guard named Greathouse, whose entire family was murdered.

The Hocking River provided sufficient hydropower for gravel and sawmills, especially in the waterfalls near Logan. The city of Logan made slow progress until 1838, when it opened the first post office on the Hockings River, the Logan Post Office, in 1839.

Several industries flourished in the Hocking Valley, owing to its rich mineral resources, and the discovery of vast amounts of coal led to a thriving mining industry.

It soon became clear that iron ore could be extracted from the sandstone in the area, and at the height of the Civil War Ohio was the leading producer of iron for equipment and weapons. When the mines were opened and closed, towns sprang up and disappeared, but no less than forty - six kilns burned in Hocking County during the Great Depression, and some stayed for a few more years.

The clay soils of the Hocking Valley helped Ohio become a market leader in clay products, and the valley's brick industry produced everything from paving stones to clay sewage pipes. Clay remains an important industry in the region, but the industrial remains can be seen today in abandoned furnaces and other industrial sites in Lake Logan State Park.

Originally known as Hocking Lake, Lake Logan opened in 1955 for recreation and was renamed LakeLogan to reflect the area's "Native American heritage" and avoid confusion with its original name, Hockings Lake State Park. There is a 527 foot long public beach and facilities include a swimming pool, picnic area, changing rooms, toilets, picnic table, amphitheater and water park.

There is a speed limit of 10 km / h and boat engines On the lake, over 10 HP are allowed, the maximum speed is 30 km / h.

Boat rental - Ups can be rented at the park office and boat moorings are also available on a rental basis. On the north side of the park, right next to the main entrance to Lake Logan State Park, is the Lake Logan Park Office and Park Office.

A valid fishing licence and hunting licence are required and hunting is not permitted during the season. The lake has a maximum depth of 1,000 feet and a minimum length of 3,500 feet, but no more than 2,200 feet.

Most areas have drinking water, barbecues and toilets, but fire is only allowed on barbecues, and the lake is open to the public on weekends only from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Boat ties require a valid fishing license and a permit from the Lake Logan State Park Board of Trustees for fishermen.

A section of the Buckeye Trail runs through the Hocking Hills State Park Forest, which is southwest of Lake Logan, and a beach leads to Lakeogan Road. The lake and the lakeside, surrounded by hills that offer opportunities for nature studies and wildlife observation, are surrounded by a number of hiking trails and trails for hiking, biking, camping, fishing and other activities.

During the summer months the swimming pool and pantry are open to the public, but autumn is a good time to visit Hocking. It is open from 1 April to 30 November and from 1 October to 31 December, with a limited number of days and events.

Cabins, campsites, picnics and hiking opportunities are available, as well as a picnic area with picnic tables and picnic benches. Lake Logan State Park and Campground, the only campground in the park, is located on the east side of the lake, south of Lake Logan. It is available from 1 April to 30 November with a limited number of days of events, from 2 October to 31 December and from 3 October to 30 December.

Lancaster's 137 Main Street is home to the restored birthplace of John Logan, the founder of Lancaster State Park and Campground. The house is open to the public every day from 9.30 am to 5 pm and no entrance fee is charged.

Hop on an old passenger train and drive up the beautiful Hocketal hills or catch a bus for a ride down to Lake Logan State Park. Two train journeys will start in Nelsonville this weekend with rain and sunshine, and two more in Lancaster.

The service is only available on Saturdays and Sundays from Memorial Day to October and weekends from May to June. The depot is located in Hocking Hills State Park, north of Nelsonville, on the west side of Lake Logan in the Hocketal Hills.

Located in Hocking Hills State Park north of Nelsonville on the west side of Lake Logan, Conkle Hollow State Nature Preserve is one of Ohio's most popular hiking and camping areas. The reserve is home to a variety of wild flowers, birds, reptiles and amphibians. A unique feature of this protected area are the rugged rocks of black sandstone, which rise almost 200 meters above the valley floor.
