About Fremont National Forest
If you're interested in getting away from it all, you might want to visit Fremont National Forests, one of the largest national forests in the United States. If you do, it offers 2.3 million acres to explore, as well as a variety of hiking trails and trails for hiking, biking and camping.
The heavily forested western part of the forest extends to the east to the area known as the Klamath River Basin, which surrounds the lake, and west to east. The forest opens from the valley floor into wide swamps and meadows connected to the Upper Klimath Lake and the Williamson River.
In the north and east, extensive populations of Ponderosa dwarf pine grow in areas covered with deep pumice ash that cover the area.
The eastern part of the forest offers sweeping views of dramatic cliffs and solitude, and the area is known as the Oregon Outback. For independent recreation seekers, this area offers opportunities to discover nature in a rustic environment.
Headquartered in Lakeview, Oregon, Fremont and Winema National Forests comprise seven ranger districts and offer miles of hiking trails for your enjoyment.
Some of the most beautiful hiking trails, including the Fremont Mountain Trail, Mount St. Helens and Lakeview Trail, are located in this wilderness area.
