About Dixie National Forest

The scenic beauty of the area is determined, and the forest is bordered by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Sierra Nevada Mountains and a number of other national parks and forests.

The red sandstone formations of Red Canyon compete with those of Bryce Canyon National Park for the highest elevation of a national park in the USA and one of the world's. The views from the top of a mountain, such as the Great Smoky Mountains and the Sierra Nevada, are breathtaking.

From the summit of Powell Point, you can see miles of three different states, and the recreational opportunities in and around the forest are very diverse. Visitors can view the landscape, fish, ride, hike, kayak or view landscapes without hearing a motorised vehicle. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, one of the largest national parks in the United States, offers a variety of hiking, camping, fishing, mountain biking, horseback riding, canoeing, hiking and camping.

Pine Valley and Ashdown Gorge offer opportunities for solitude, horseback riding and hiking. The forest covers 83,000 hectares of wilderness, with a total area of 1.5 million hectares and a population of about 1,500 people.

Big game hunting is the main attraction in the forest, although interest in observing and photographing all types of wildlife has increased recently. The Dixie National Forest promotes a variety of animal species that provide many hours of viewing and enjoyment for forest visitors and also play an important role in its ecosystem.

Wild fish include brown, rainbow and brown trout, as well as many other bird species, reptiles and amphibians. The best fishing opportunities are to be found in the many lakes, reservoirs and streams that are located in and around the forest.

There are 26 campsites and 5 picnic areas in the forest, and you can reserve your group location by calling us in advance. There is also a picnic area for groups who are traveling together or want to camp and picnic in a group. If you prefer drinking water and toilets, you should be equipped with these facilities and access to toilets and showers.

The forest works with the state parks to maintain trails for skiing and snowmobiling, and there are many in this area. Brian Head also has a ski resort that can accommodate up to 3,200 skiers at a time. The campsites are located on the east side of the forest, near the hiking trail and on a steep, steep hill, about 1,500 feet above sea level.

Access to the west side of the forest is from Cedar City via Interstate 15, and the east side and forest are accessible from the south end of Brian Head State Park on the north side.
