About North Cascades National Park

Long known as the North American Alps, the North Cascades are characterized by their rugged beauty, with spectacular views of the Cascade Mountains and the Pacific Ocean and a variety of animal species. Each area contains wilderness and offers a different experience, but all of these areas contain wilderness. The three park units, managed as one, form the heart of this mountainous region, which consists of two national parks, North Cascade National Park and Cascade Mountain State Park, each of which includes its own mountain ranges, lakes, rivers and lake communities.

About 93% of the park is managed as Stephen T. Mather Wilderness, which was established by Congress in 1988. The wilderness area is named after the late U.S. Secretary of State William M.

Mather and is home to North Cascades National Park and Cascade Mountain State Park, both founded in 1968.

Newer settlers came to build farms and towns in the Stehekin Valley to extract elusive minerals. Today, only a small part of the original settlement area is accessible within the National Park at the beginning of the 19th century, but there are a large number of old trees - forests, mountain ranges, lakes and other natural features.

Look out for the North Cascades Metamorphosis Trail, a popular hiking trail through the Stehekin Valley, and Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

A concession operates a home economics cabin and a fishing license can be purchased from the Fish and Game Department of North Cascades National Park. A float moored at the bottom of Ross Lake houses a small fishing boat, and fishing licenses can be purchased on the boat or at the park office.

In the Stehekin area of North Cascades National Park, several B & Bs (cabins and lodges) are offered, with access to the Ste hebe access from the park office at the northern end of Ross Lake.

Firewood can be purchased and collected in Marblemount, which is 10 miles west, or at the North Cascades Fire Station at the park's north entrance.

The first comes first and is served by the North Cascades Fire Station at the north entrance of the park in Marblemount, about 800 metres west of the road.

Firewood is available at the park's community, North Cascades Fire Station in Marblemount and several other fire stations in the area.

Most of those areas are still being treated by the North Cascades Fire Department, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Park Service.

Canoes, kayaks and small boats can start from Colonial Creek Campground and sail five miles to the end of Diablo Lake. Canoes and motor boats are towed from Ross Lake Resort for a fee of $14 per portage, but you must bring your boat and equipment by boat or motorboat (see phone number below). The campsites in North Cascades National Park and Diablo Lakes are usually open from mid-June to September.

There are numerous boat moorings on Lake Chelan, including the Stehekin pier, and from the shore there is access to Lake Diablo and Lake Diablo.

Even in summer, water temperatures rarely exceed 10 degrees Celsius in Ross Lake. However, falls into the lake can quickly lead to heat exhaustion, to the point where the body can no longer maintain its own heat. Always prepare for emergencies and sudden changes in weather and carry rain gear and extra food.

Water from nearby lakes and streams can contain microorganisms such as giardia, which can cause severe intestinal diseases. Always boil or treat your drinking water and store it in a cool, dry place for at least 24 hours.

Federal and state boat regulations are enforced on all lakes and all boats and equipment are checked before leaving the house. All lights must be on at all times, regardless of the time of day or night, even in the darkness of the night.

Ross Lake is full in the summer months due to heavy rain and snow melt in the winter months. In other months of the year, rocks, hooks and other underwater hazards are exposed when pumping from the reservoir.

Strong gusts often occur in the white area without warning, so always be on your guard against floating tree trunks, flooded obstacles and other hazards.

A comfortable paddle route for most groups is 5-7 miles per day, and the safest way to travel is to get from Ross Lake and Lake Chelan. Ross Lake is often calm in the morning, but in the afternoon and early evening weak south winds blow in. The safest ways to travel are from the west side of the park, where there is good access to both the north and south coast of Ross Lakes.

Day and Annual Tickets can be purchased at USFS Chelan Ranger Station, and port fees are required to use either Day or Overnight Tickets. Numerous boat and tent sites are available, but permission is required to stay overnight in these locations.

Permits are best obtained in Marblemount, Hozomeen, Chelan and Stehekin, and served first at the base and then picked up again.

Ross Lake campsite is equipped with a fireplace, picnic tables, picnic table and plenty of food to keep food out of the reach of bears. Take advantage of it for camping, hiking, fishing, camping and other activities in North Cascades National Park and experience what most people have never seen.

Keep the wildlife in North Cascades National Park healthy and independent by not giving them more than 1,000 pounds of food per day, per person, per year.

Special food containers are available in selected warehouses, but all portable containers must be checked by the regulatory authorities to ensure food is stored safely and effectively for animals.

Keep the warehouses clean, do garbage and keep the animals safe and healthy by keeping the warehouse clean. False standing trees, live or dead, are banned in North Cascades National Park and other national parks in the United States.
