About Bull Shoal-White River State Park

The White River is known as Bull Shoals State Park, one of the largest lakes in the United States and the second largest in North America. It stretches along the eastern shore of Bull Shoals Lake, where it meets the White River and Bull Shoals Lake at Bull's Shoals Dam. Together, these waters form the largest freshwater lake in the world, the third largest of its kind in South America, with an average depth of about 1,000 feet.

Fishermen are attracted to catch perch, catfish, cappie and bream, and water sports enthusiasts can go boating and swimming in the clear, open water. Swarms of bulls form dam Bull Shoals Lake, a 45,440-acre body of water stretching from the northern Arkansas border to southern Missouri. The park is a popular destination for camping along the river, kayaking, rafting, canoeing and other recreational activities.

The park offers a varied program throughout the year, and its marina and shop offer a variety of fishing, boating, kayaking, canoeing and other recreational activities. Parking is available on site, including in the parking lot of the park at Bullensee, along the river, along hiking trails and in the parking lots of the State Park.

The $4.8 million center, which opened in the fall of 2006, is located at the top of the dam between the park and the other facilities. The centre offers a variety of outdoor activities such as kayaking, canoeing, hiking, fishing, swimming, kayaking and boating at Bullensee as well as a range of other activities.

The James A. Gaston Visitor Center is the only interpretative lake in North Carolina's Bullensee State Park and serves as the main hub for visitors to the entire Bull Shores State Park. It is named after the first president of the US Army Corps of Engineers and a former governor of New York.

Interpretative exhibits with pictures of rivers, lakes and dams are on display in the centre of the 1720 square metres area. The centre also has a museum with a large number of exhibits on the history of the Bullensee National Park and the river and lake systems in the area. Interpretative exhibits, such as a replica of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, tell the story of fishing in these famous waters.

The Bullensee National Park Museum and Interpretation Center in Bull Shores State Park is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.
