When it was founded in 1923, the natural beauty of Petit Jean Mountain inspired the creation of the Arkansas State Park System. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), established in the 1930s, reflects the state's commitment to conserving natural resources and preserving Arkansas "natural beauty.

The historic Mather Lodge is located in the heart of Petit Jean State Park, just south of the main entrance to the park at the foot of Mount Jean.

Near Mather Lodge is a fully equipped cabin overlooking Mount Jean that shares the same bluff. This breathtaking view includes a dramatic sunset in the evening and views of the park from the top of Mount Jean throughout the day.

Upstream, the lake is formed by a rocky causeway, and the boathouse offers a beautiful view of Cedar Creek Canyon, one of the park's most popular waterfalls. Cedar Creek Canyon is a spectacular 1.50 meter high waterfall that stretches along Cedar Canyon Road south of Mather Lodge on the west side of Petit Jean Lake.

The utility area of the fully equipped cottage includes a fully equipped kitchen with hob, hob, oven and stove. Also included are an ironing board and a small kitchenette, as well as a full-service bathroom and a laundry room.
