Six Rivers National Forest is located east of Eureka in northwestern California and stretches from the Oregon border south to south for about 140 miles. US 101, the famous Redwood Highway, runs through the forest east of Redwoods National Park and north - south along the eastern edge of the park, south - west of San Francisco.

Many more camps are scattered in the forest to provide shelter to isolated people, and there are many small campsites for hikers, mountain bikers, campers and other outdoor enthusiasts.

All leisure activities, except hunting, are mainly river-oriented. Swimming (or swimming in one of the main rivers) is a popular activity, as are hiking, mountain biking, camping, fishing, canoeing and other outdoor activities.

Hunting in Six Rivers Land is primarily focused on black deer, elk, bighorn sheep, coyotes, wild boar and other wildlife. Fishing is considered the best in California in the fall and early winter months, and salmon and steelhead can be caught in the area. This area is home to the Hoopa Indian Reserve, with a population of more than 1,000 people and a variety of wildlife including black bears, wild boars, mountain lions and wolves.

Six Rivers National Forest was founded by President Truman on June 3, 1947, and when it became clear that it would be established, the administration of the area was moved from the cities inland to Eureka. Six Rivers Land, home to more than 1,000 species of living creatures including birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds of prey, fish, insects and other wildlife.

The Six Rivers National Forest offers nearly half a million acres of enjoyment, relaxation and exploration. Experience wilderness solitude, explore remote riverside homes, enjoy panoramic views of the majestic mountains, experience developed campgrounds, or experience wilderness solitude within a six-hour drive from the Bay Area. Six Rivers designates the six main waterways that drain and cross the densely wooded forest, suggested the well-known author Robert E. Howard Jr. in his book "The Natural History of Northern California."

Six Rivers offers camping, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, camping and other activities in the Ranger District.

The campsites differ in location and equipment, but most of the forest is open for camping, although undeveloped campsites are preferred and camping is subject to the same restrictions as camping in other national parks and national forests. In the Six Rivers National Forest you will find many developed campsites, some of which are explicitly prohibited, such as campfires, campsites, picnic areas and campsite sites.

All developed campsites require a fire permit and all pitches must be at least 1,000 feet from a fire pit or other source of fire. To get into the forest, you must drive your vehicle to the nearest campsite or campfire site within a radius of 6 km.
