About El Capitán State Beach
El Capitan State Beach offers visitors access to rocky tidal pools, sand dunes and rocky cliffs, as well as scenic views of the Pacific Ocean. It is one of California's most popular state parks, with more than 1,000 acres of sandy beaches and a variety of activities.
The beach is located on the west side of El Capitan State Park, south of San Francisco Bay. A staircase leads from the cliffs to the beach and then down to a sandy beach and a rocky tidal pool at the foot of a cliff.
