About Point Sal State Beach
Point Sal State Beach (SB) is located on the west side of Point Sal Island, in the Bay of Biscay, California, USA. The park covers about 80 hectares and covers an area of about 2,000 square kilometres. The area between the beach and the rocky coast has an extremely steep slope and numerous landslides can be seen. This slope is one of the most dangerous areas for hikers and other park visitors.
The coast of Lion's Rock is an important breeding ground for birds and is also used by sea lions and other marine mammals. The giant coreopsis is abundant in the area and dominates the wildflower show in spring. The wildflowers of Point Sal State Beach State Park, especially the giant coreopsis, are exceptional.
Leisure activities at Point Sal (SB) include hiking, cycling, swimming, fishing, kayaking, canoeing and other outdoor activities. Swimming is only recommended in the summer months and only for adults and children under 18 years.
The camping ban at Point Sal (SB) is enforced by the Air Police in the summer months and by Park Rangers in the winter months. People camping in the park are cited, arrested, evicted or cited by Park Rangers for disorderly conduct, trespassing and / or misconduct in and around the park.
