About Morro Bay State Park

Morro Bay State Park includes a lagoon and the bay's natural habitat, but the most prominent landmark of the bay is Morro Rock, bordered to the north by the Pacific Ocean, the San Luis Obispo River and San Pedro Bay.

The Park Museum acts like a museum with exhibits that cover the history of Morro Bay, its history, its present state and its future. The park offers a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, swimming and fishing. It also features an outdoor amphitheater, picnic areas, a picnic area and a children's playground.

On the northeast edge of the bay is an unspoilt salt-water swamp that supports a thriving bird population. The Black Hill summit leads to the highest point of Morro Bay and the largest mountain range of the state of California. It was formed from a volcano and sea that covered the area about fifteen million years ago. As the sea and volcanic eruptions subsided, erosion began to dissolve the soft mountain material or volcanic rock, leaving nine volcanic peaks high above the surrounding landscape.

These volcanic dowels include Hollister Peak and the famous Morro Rock, and each has a path that crosses the steep slopes of Black Hill, the highest point in the state of California. From each of the 640-foot peaks, you can admire the views of Morros Bay and its bay to the north and south, and the San Luis Obispo River.

Drive one mile to the entrance of Morro Bay State Park, turn south on South Bay Boulevard, follow Coast Highway and turn right on San Luis Obispo River Trail.

Drive one mile to the State Park Marina where you should park and keep left at the first fork near the entrance. From the campsite, follow the road to join the path, then climb the steep, steep climb to the Morro Bay Trail. Drive for a mile and turn right onto the San Luis Obispo River Trail, but leave at this first fork near this entrance and walk along this road to a campsite that joins the path.

A mile from the top of the road, there is a junction, cross the asphalt road and start climbing up the mountain. Follow the steep climb to Morro Bay Trail and San Luis Obispo River Trail, then follow the trail for about 1 mile until you reach an asphalt road.

After about 1,5 km drive back to the crossroads and then drive straight ahead And to the east, the path passes a water tank. The route then becomes steeper, first through scrub and conifers along the coast, then switchbacks to a summit. Discover a eucalyptus grove where monarch butterflies gather and return to the top to enjoy the beautiful view.

Cross the golf course road and you will reach the eastern part of the practice trail, which will take you back to the hiking trail. The museum offers activities for all ages, from hiking tours to guided tours. A visit to the California Central Coast is possible with a side trip to San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Santa Barbara and San Jose.

The Natural History Museum is located on the west side of Morro Bay State Park, north of the golf course. The museum overlooks the coast and ocean, as well as the state and national estuaries of which it is a part. Visit the Chumash Garden on the edge of this museum and learn about the native plants in the area and how they were used in daily life.
