About Angeles National Forest
The Angeles National Forest is located in Southern California and covers 634,187 hectares, including the Los Angeles and San Bernardino National Forests and the San Gabriel Mountains. The forest provides more than 1.5 million hectares of national forest land for recreation and wildlife habitat.
The topography of the forest ranges from mountain peaks to 10,000 feet, and the best introduction to the forest is a walk through the Los Angeles National Forest National Wildlife Refuge. This allows you to observe and see how the vegetation changes with height, and observe wildlife such as bears, wolves, coyotes, foxes, wild cats and other animals.
Over 800 km of forest trails lead into tree-lined gorges and the forest offers a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing. In winter, visitors can snowmobile, ski, snowboard, or play in the snow on the trails of the Los Angeles National Forest National Wildlife Refuge.
