About Placerita Canyon State Park

This historic landmark of the state is located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, north of Las Vegas, Nevada, and includes the historic power plant and its facilities. It was designed to preserve and protect the natural beauty and scenic beauty of California's Rocky Mountain National Park. The location of these power plants provides a natural backdrop for the mountains with scenic views of San Bernardino County and the San Gabriel Mountains.

This unit contains the remains of a historic ranch and houses a number of historic buildings as well as a small museum and a museum of the ranch.

River End Recreation Park is one of the most popular spots in Placerita Canyon State Park and you will discover an impressive lake called Upper Van Norman Lake. At the warmest time of year, it reaches the 80s, but as night falls, temperatures dip into the 60s. Winter brings highs in the 40s, with temperatures in the Placeritas Canyon State Park dropping to the 30s on winter nights.

Placerita Canyon State Park gets very little rainfall and most of the rainfall falls in February, but July is the least humid month. After a long day outdoors, it is a great place to spend a night or two at Knollwood Country Club, which is a golf course nearby.
