About Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park
Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, a 1,000-acre state park, offers a variety of hiking, camping, fishing and hiking trails, as well as scenic views of the Pacific Ocean. Founded in the early 1920s by the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers and the California Department of Natural Resources, Prairie Creek is one of the oldest parks in California, with more than 2,500 acres of wooded land and 2.5 miles of hiking trails.
The park is jointly managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers and the California Department of Natural Resources and is a World Heritage and Biosphere Reserve. The park is the oldest surviving sequoia forest in California and includes the largest sequoia forest in the state, with more than 2,500 acres of woodland and 2.5 kilometers of hiking trails. Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, one of the oldest state parks in the world, was set aside in the early 1920s as part of Save the Redwood State Forest, a National Park Service nature reserve. Prairie Creek is home to some of California's largest and most diverse collections of growing red coastal trees.
Nowhere is the grandeur of this ancient redwood forest more appreciated than in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. The park is a nature reserve with uncut forests, and trails lead to the park's main entrance, the Redwood Trail, a 2.5-kilometer hike through the forest.
Take time for a walk along the many varied trails and become part of the annual Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park Redwood Festival, a celebration of redwood trees.
The terrain is relatively mild, which is best for hiking, cycling and mountain biking in the early morning and evening hours.
The park has two developed campsites: Gold Bluffs Beach Campsite has 25 campsites and is accessible from Davison Road (HWY). Elk Prairie Campsite is located on the west side of the park, south of Elk Creek Road. Elk Prairie has 75 pitches, which can accommodate 24 caravans or 27 campers.
The campsites offer a variety of amenities such as showers, toilets, showers and showers. There is a flush toilet, which can be flushed in the morning and evening hours, as well as an outdoor shower and shower cabin.
The campsites are open all year round, but Gold Bluff Beach Camp is based on First come, first served. Camps in Elk Prairie can be reserved by phone at 800 - 444 - 7275 or by email.
The park also has two camps in the hinterland, environmental camps, but there is no fee required for registration. Camps are open all year round, and campers from both indoor campsites are reminded to register and park at the visitor center and register for their designated campsite in Elk Prairie State Park.
The native Roosevelt moose on the beach were of course easy to spot, but you could also spot a number of other wildlife such as coyotes, bears, wolves, foxes, coyotes and even a few birds of prey.
You could even see the locals and Roosevelt elks from the beaches, except for one or two of them.
Prairie Creek offers a wide variety of habitats and a wide range of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds of prey. Over 260 bird species have been spotted within the boundaries of the park, but some species of particular importance have been assumed as the forest ages. The owls have been spotted in many different places, from the beach to the beach and even in trees and bushes. Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park and its adjacent parks offer a greater variety of habitats.
Due to the predominant coastal fog, the forest undergrowth is very dense, but also dense enough to house birds, reptiles, amphibians and birds of prey.
Azaleas and rhododendrons set a bright accent in the dense green forest, and the rhododendron trail is a popular spot to see an eye-catching show. The ground is dense, and coastal redwoods are found in abundance, as they are on the edge of the prairie, along with a variety of other tree species and shrubs.
The fauna of the park is rich and varied, including birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, birds of prey, insects, reptiles and birds.
The beach is at Gold Bluffs and the paths of the park wind through lush parks, and walkers spoil the cool feeling and scent of forest and water. The redwoods cover a damp and mysterious world and are shrouded in mist and silence. Redwoods State Park, one of California's most popular national parks, has been named the "Best State Park in California" by the National Park Service.
Bright yellow monkey flowers abound, as do bell-shaped flowers that hang in clusters and suffocate in the steep walls of the gorge. Ferns have roots and stems that resemble flowering plants, and they are considered a primitive form of plant life because they multiply through spores, not seeds. These are plants that were much more numerous 200 million years ago, but are now considered primitive because of their inability to reproduce.
Gold Bluffs was named in 1850 when gold prospectors found flakes of gold in the sand on the beach.
The discovery sparked a small gold rush, and Gold Bluff State Park, now a state park, was officially named after the discovery.
Gold Bluffs Beach is a beauty, and we have mined a little gold, built a tent city on the beach, and taken a few walks on it, but it is still a beautiful place.
