About Patricks Point State Park

Patrick Point is located on the west coast of San Diego County, California, about 30 miles north of downtown San Francisco. The dramatic coastline, which ranges from wide sandy beaches to steep cliffs high above the Pacific Ocean, offers a variety of opportunities to explore tidal pools, search for agate fuels, and watch whales, sea lions, and brilliant sunsets. A headland of beautiful wildflower-fringed meadows stretches for miles along the coast of Patrick Point State Park, south of the city of Santa Cruz.

The park takes its name from Patrick Beegan, who in 1851 managed this dramatic, densely wooded promontory, and although it is located in the heart of the redwoods, other trees dominate the rocky promontory of the park. Point Agate Beach Campground is located just 2 miles from Patrick Point and offers access to the newly built Yurok Village, a popular tourist attraction for the local community. The Y Kurok spend their summers at the campsite, on the beach and in a nearby beach house.

The Yurok collect mussels, and berries are abundant in the surrounding forest, as are crabs, sea turtles and other marine life.

The area, now called Patrick's or "Point," also has a certain spiritual significance for the indigenous population. According to Yurok, the Sumig, a ghost pig, retreated to Patricks and people began to populate the world.

The Rim Trail follows the old Indian trail up the steep slopes of the park to the top of a steep hill and then down into the woods on the other side.

How to get there: Point State Park is located on the west side of the Pacific Ocean, north of Patrick, California. Leave Highway 101 in Patrick and follow the road into the park as soon as you follow a sign to Palmer Point at the entrance to the park. The path leads to a rocky peak that juts out into the Pacific Ocean and offers spectacular views of the sea and ocean, as well as beach and beach.

Adjacent to Sumeg Village is a native plant garden where you will find native plants used as baskets for food and medicine. The garden was founded in 1997 as a plant garden for the Indians, containing plants used by the local Yuroks. In the village, the plants are used for baskets, food, medicines and other medical purposes, as well as for food.

The Indian Garden is located east of Sumeg Village on the west side of Patrick's Point State Park. The garden is dedicated to plants used as remedies, wicker weavers and for ceremonial purposes.

This 6 km trail leads to the top of Patrick's Point State Park on the west side of Sumeg Village. On the Rim Trail you can see the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Garden and the old Sitka spruce forests. The octopus trail winds through the forest of older Sitkak spruce trees and winds around the foot of a steep, steep hill to a rocky beach at the bottom.

Two circular routes overlooking the coast are also available, and a few short steep paths lead to the ancient sea mountains, which were left high and dry when the ocean receded. In this part of the park, the flora is so dense that the walkers who walk along the paths are protected and isolated by vegetation walls.
