About Avalon State Park

Avalon is one of the newest ocean parks and has the highest concentration of endangered sea turtles in the US and the second highest number of dune crossings. The park provides habitat for many animal species, but is particularly important for endangered sea turtles. Dune crossings protect sensitive dunes and ecosystems as well as the park's wildlife, such as sea lions, sea otters, seals, dolphins, whales, sharks and other marine mammals.

Swimmers, snorkelers, fishermen and sunbathers relaxing on the beach are welcome, but they should beware of the obstacles left underwater by amphibious warfare exercises during World War II. Visitors can dine at sheltered picnic tables overlooking the beaches or in the shade of the dune crossings.

Within the boundaries of the Avalon Tract, several protected plant species are listed on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's National Register of Historic Places. It is located on the east side of West Palm Beach, just south of Interstate 95, and includes the Avalon Dunes National Wildlife Refuge and several other state parks and private properties.

During World War II, the U.S. Marines stored numerous concrete, steel and underwater obstacles along the coast for training purposes. Swimming is allowed in the Atlantic, but beware when you enter the sea from the park.

The obstacles have now been removed, but one thing remains, so swim at your own risk and lifeguards will be in the area.

You can go canoeing or kayaking on the beach, but all water activities are at your own risk and must be carried out by you.

If you like fishing, this is one of the hottest places to fish on land, and at certain times of the year you can see fish wandering along the coast.

They catch a variety of fish species, including redfish, bluefish and other small fish, as well as some larger fish. They must observe all fishing lines in the park, and non-residents must obtain a Florida license to fish from shore.

Visitors to the park can enjoy the beauty of the beach for which it is famous, and take a leisurely stroll. The beach has a wide variety of bird species, turtles, birds of prey and other wildlife. In the sand you can also find jewels called shells, crabs, shrimps, crabs and crabs.

Snorkeling is a popular pastime when the weather permits, but caution is advised when going out to sea in the park. Snorkelers can enjoy the beautiful tropical marine fauna that awaits them below.

Most of the year the water is much warmer than you might think in the Bahamas, so be careful.

Electricity and water are not available, but the park offers a barbecue, which is located away from the main parking lot. It is available according to the principle of "first come, first served" and is open daily from 11 am to 4 pm.

The hammocks on the coast, located on the west side of the A1A, are open to visitors and an excellent place for bird watching. The front gate parking lot at the northern end of Avalon State Park, just outside the main entrance, is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The park is located on the east side of the A1A, just off the north end of Avalon State Park. You can see many native trees, including many species of pine, elm, birch, oak, maple and other trees.
