About Dunns Creek State Park

Duns Creek State Park, one of the largest US national parks, is located on the west side of Dunes Creek, north of San Diego, California. The natural habitat of this park includes sandy hills covered with long-leaved pines and wire grasses. This community protects endangered species and their habitats, as well as wildlife such as birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals and birds of prey. It is the only national park in California with a total area of more than 1,000 hectares.

One kilometre of hiking and cycling trails lead visitors to the pristine waters of the Blue Pond. A picnic and hiking area is located on US-17 north of Pomona Park, and a hotel is also located in the park, south of the parking lot on the west side of Dunes Creek.

Nature lovers and photographers will love the network of trails, which includes hiking trails, cycle paths, canoeing, kayaking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails. Wildlife can be seen on the busy trails and in the nature reserves of the park, such as the Blue Pond and Dunes Creek.

The park's diverse habitats offer opportunities for natural research and wildlife observation. Along the trails you will have the opportunity to observe birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds of prey and other animal species. Natural communities offer a unique view of the different animal species that inhabit the area. These paths start at the Yellow Trail and lead through the main parking lot of the park.

The parking paths vary in length, so plan your trip accordingly, and if you are on a multi-purpose path, be prepared to meet occasional hikers or drivers of a parking vehicle. Please respect the wildlife of the park, drive responsibly, follow designated paths and respect the wildlife of the park.

The park closes at sunset and you must leave the park at this time, so plan your hike accordingly.
