About Lake Le-Aqua-Na State Park

If you stay an afternoon or a few days, you will return with many happy memories, and the park also offers a variety of activities for children, such as youth camping on the grounds. The land purchase program began in 1948, and a decade later a 715-hectare state recreation area was inaugurated. Located on the west side of Lake Le'aqua - NA, just south of Chicago, this hotel is designed to provide Illinois residents with recreational opportunities near their homes. Surrounded by 40 acres of lake and recreational facilities, it is located north of downtown Chicago and east of I-94.

The name is a nod to Lake Le'aqua - the name of the NA State Park, and it is the name of a competition sponsored by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the State of Illinois.

There are many sponsors, but this is one of the largest and most prestigious state parks in Illinois, with more than 1,000 acres of land.

In spring and early summer the ground is covered with wildflowers, including Dutch trouser-blood root and bluebells. Deer are also frequently spotted, and observers could catch a badger. They are common in large parts of the pine plantations and are often spotted in the forest areas.

For many years, Lake Le-Aqua-Na was the only state recreation area where badgers could be observed. However, they have become increasingly rare and have recently begun to populate other state recreational areas.

Three Black Hawk War missions took place within a few miles of the park, and in the mid-19th century there was a small skirmish. A small community was founded and expanded to the east, and houses were built along the path that would become the main path of Lake Le - Aqua - Na State Park. The park is now bounded by the Wisconsin River, the Mississippi River and the US Army Corps of Engineers.

The water is conveniently located in the area and various campsites can accommodate campers, tents, horse riding and youth groups. There are a few remote places, but most are open and spacious, have plenty of shade and there are a large number of power points.

Reservations are highly recommended for the major holiday weekends, but are usually not required at other times of the summer. While the RV park is open all year round, weekdays only a toilet flush and an electricity connection are in operation.

The campground and the hiking trails can be closed in wet weather and the riding stables have vaulted cabins. Access to the area is via county roads bordering the park, but some campgrounds and paths may be closed due to the wet conditions.

Lake Le - Aqua - Na isbe is a very relaxed, family-oriented experience and no prior written permission is required to use the youth camp site, which can accommodate up to 50 young people.

Upon arrival, you will receive a common sense brochure that will give you a satisfactory experience.

Alcoholic drinks are not allowed at any time in the campsite and after 10 pm access to all campsites is prohibited.

They must obtain a permit upon arrival and pitch their camp and have a tent or purchase an additional permit to secure a place for a friend who arrives later.

Pets are very important for camping and it is your responsibility to keep them on a leash and pick up their rubbish and take care of them at all times. Many campers are not pet owners and their camping experience is severely affected when pets are noisy. Pets should be considered as marked because they could disturb others and cause problems for park staff.

The lake was completed in 1956 and offers fishing boats and trips to the beach, but you can also have fun by bringing your own boat or renting one from the concessionaire if you do not plan to go fishing. Small beaches, especially suitable for children, are open and there are no lifeguards, alcohol is strictly forbidden and swimming is at your own risk.

The launch pad is located next to the concession stand and can be reached from the parking lot at the northern end of the park.

Regular stockings of whale eyes, pike and catfish complete the lake's appearance and carry large mullets, bluethroats, cappie and oxhead. Stacks of brushes and fish cribs are found all over the lake and provide a perfect habitat for all fish populations. Only electric motors are allowed in the lakes and rules, catch limits and sizes are enforced to keep fish in flocks.

The dock for disabled people is located on the beach, so visitors can fish in the area, and the pitch is equipped with tables and barbecues.

Those who want to plan ahead can reserve two picnic huts with electricity until 2 January each year.
