The Spring Lake Fish and Wildlife Area is located on the west side of Spring Lake in Michigan, south of the city of St. Louis. The state acquired the land (632 hectares) in 1950 and the total area is now 2032 in 20 32.

Spring Lake is a long, narrow lake formed by the meander of the Illinois River and dominated by large sandstone rocks. The lake covers an area of 1,285 hectares, has a maximum depth of 10 feet and an 18 mile shoreline. Spring Lake was described in a study in the 1840s as a "meander" and was named the "State of Illinois." It runs almost parallel to the Illinois River, extends about 2 km south of St. Louis, Michigan and covers about 7,000 hectares, has 18 miles of coastline and covers about 4,800 acres.

The construction of a high dike in the late 1950s raised the lake's water level to a maximum depth of 3.5 meters above the previous record level of 9 feet.

The enlarged lake was completely filled in the 1960s, the new lake in the 1970s. The enlarged Lake Spring Lake State Park, a California state park, is filled with its new water level in 1960.

The new lake was almost twice the size of the old Spring Lake and also flooded a lake known as Saiwell Lake, about 800 meters east.

In the North Park there are pine and oak tents, and seventy pitches for tents and trailers are available. Trailer disposal stations are available, as well as a campsite with picnic area, picnic tables, toilets, showers and toilets.

Ice fishing is allowed, but caution is required, as the underwater springs can weaken the ice and most species have a limit on the creel length. Most Indians expelled the valley in the 1770s, but some tribesmen made their last claim to the area in 1833. The most famous tribes in this river valley were Peoria, Kaskaskia, Cahokia, Tamaroa and Michigamie at the time of the arrival of the French. The white settlement in Spring Lake Valley began around 1830 and the first inhabitants of the SpringLake area built hills for the Native Americans.

In the mid-19th century, a large trade in grain and meat developed along the river, and steamships sailed up the Illinois River to Peoria in 1829. This led to the development of the Spring Lake Drainage District in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Back then, it was a kind of waterway connecting rivers and backwater, and drainage districts built ships and railways under dikes to accommodate water traffic. Boats were no longer allowed to cross the river, but the railways and railways did, leading to a significant increase in river traffic and a decline in water quality and pollution.

According to legend, the railway was used only once and eventually fell into disrepair, was abandoned and abandoned. Ships with low draughts also used Spring Lake for navigation purposes until 1915. The Dickson Mounds Museum is one of the most important archaeological sites in the state of Illinois and provides a great opportunity to explore the world of American Indians. It houses the largest collection of Native American hills in Illinois and the only museum of its kind in North America.
