Historically, Turkey Run offers a unique glimpse into the past, and a walk through one of the canyons can take visitors back to a time before the Great Depression, when the sandstone canyon was an important point in West Virginia's history and the US Geological Survey.

The sandstone of Mansfield, named after Mansfields, Indiana, is the main material that makes up the Turkey Run cliffs. The sand was deposited by flowing water many years ago, and then pressure and cementation changed the grains of sand into sedimentary rock. Later, wind and water began to cut the sandstones when exposed to the air, but it was the ice age itself that shaped them into a familiar shape.

The northern part of the park was once covered by glacial ice, and as the glaciers melted, the debris trapped by the moving ice settled.

The rushing meltwater crushes stones of many shapes and sizes into soft sandstone, and the stone forms into rocks of varying sizes and shapes.

The grinding effect helps to cut through the sandstone, which in turn forms hard, round stones called glacial beds. In the last hundred years, the erosion of sandstones has continued, albeit more slowly. Today, the creek bed is home to hard round stones called "glacier beds," as well as many other hard rock types such as granite, sand and limestone.

The gorges are very similar to those of the Indians and pioneers, and the last Indian, Johnny Green, is said to have died fishing at the Goose Rock. The Miami Indians took a path that park visitors still use today, as well as a path along the creek bed that is still used by park visitors today.

The early pioneers left traces of their heritage, and the historic Lusker-Heim-Mühle recalls early ventures and ambitions.

When Captain Lusk bought the land in 1825, he built a watermill, which was completed in 1829 with the help of his son-in-law John Lusker. The "Lusk Administration" of this country preserved the unspoilt nature of the country for the rest of its life, until the 19th century.

The Log House Museum at Sunset Point was also built in 1848, and the large tulip trunks recall the builders of early America who supplied the largest tulips in the forest. The block church, the concrete bridge and the tavern were originally built around 1923, but all moved to Turkey in 1918. They remind us of the religious heritage of our ancestors and the history of the Turkish State Park.

Over the years, they have been modified, supplemented and modified, and non-religious services have been held in their original places.

Today, Turkey Run Inn offers comfort and modern furnishings with the ambience of a rustic country inn. For decades, a Chicago tour train has been available to pick up adventurous travelers for a vacation at the Turkish Inn, but today it is a full-service hotel with sleeping cabins for up to six people, a dining room and a kitchen.

Turkey Run State Park is located in the heart of Turkey Run, making it one of the largest state parks in North America with a total area of over 2,000 hectares.
