About Lake Keomah State Park

Lake Keomah State Park is 366 acres, consists of beautiful forest and water and is one of the largest state parks in the USA with a total area of 1.5 million square feet.

In summer, the lake with its deep shallow water and lush vegetation provides habitat for all kinds of wildlife. You can see an ox frog blowing bass solos, wading in the shallows to find minnows, and quails in bays that approach human footpaths. In autumn, the lakes are surrounded by a variety of trees, shrubs and a colourful mix.

Keomah may sound like an Indian name, but it is not, and the name derives from the two counties that helped finance the park more than 50 years ago. Many houses are on both sides of the lake and parts on the south side are reserved for private buildings.

The park was inaugurated in 1934 and many of the facilities were built by the Civil Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s and 1940s as part of the civil rights movement.

Lake Keomah also has restaurants and relaxation facilities available on reservation for organized groups. Reservations for campsites can be made via the Park's website or by calling 1-866-542-7500. Half of the campsite is still open for camping, according to the principle of "first come, first served" and all campsites have at least 1500 square meters.

Camping with group members is allowed nearby, but please read the reservation group camp rental document for more information on the location of your campsite and other details about the park.
There are fishing pier on the west coast, which is accessible to people of different abilities. Ice fishing is popular in winter, and fishing for people with different abilities is excellent. The lodge is only available on reservation, but it is a great place to camp for a few days or weeks.

The scenic beauty of Lake Keomah has long made it a popular picnic spot, and open picnic huts can be reserved for a fee at the park office. The forest areas of this park offer excellent hiking opportunities all year round, so contact the park office to make a reservation.

In winter, snowmobiles can be ridden on designated trails, and there is a multi-purpose trail that runs along the lake shore.
