About Myles Standish State Forest
Myles Standish State Forest stretches over the southern part of Plymouth and Carver and is one of the largest state forests in the state of New Hampshire and the second largest in Maine. It offers picnics, swimming, fishing and canoeing, and parts of the ponds and areas are reserved for camping on horseback. MSSF offers five campsites on the banks of a large pond with a total area of 12,000 square meters. The hiking trails, picnic areas, waterfalls and other natural beauties are well maintained and offer picnics, swimming and fishing as well as hiking, cycling and camping.
On the coastal plain, there are several ecologically significant cauldron ponds in the Myles Standish State Forest. The banks of these ponds are extremely sensitive to trampling, so please respect the unique natural qualities of the park and observe the barrier signs that indicate sensitive areas. Horse riding trails, picnic areas, waterfalls and other natural attractions lead visitors through the forest, which includes hiking trails, canoeing trails, swimming, fishing, horseback riding and camping.
Hunting is allowed during the season and wild birds are stocked, but hunting is not allowed in the park except for a limited number of birds of prey. In summer, the Myles Standish State Forest Wildlife Management Area (WMA) helps visitors familiarize themselves with the forest's wildlife and wildlife management policies. Off-road vehicles are allowed on the trails, parking is available in the parking lot at the entrance to the state forest.
Office hours at the campsite are from 8 am to 8 pm, office hours at the campsites from 9 am to 5 pm and from 6 pm to 7 pm on weekends.
