About Miller State Park

Miller, the oldest national park in New Hampshire, is located on the eastern edge of the state, north of Manchester, in the town of Miller, New York.

Winding asphalt roads lead to the picturesque summit, which is open to visitors on summer, spring and autumn weekends. Picnicking and hiking are popular activities in this picturesque mountain park; three main hiking trails lead to and from the summit. The most famous is the North Pack, a 21-mile walk that stretches from Mt. Watatic (Ashburnham, Massachusetts) to North Pack (Monadnock, Greenfield).

The fire tower, which no longer has a fire alarm system, offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, as well as the Watatic and the state Capitol.

It is believed that the indigenous people named the mountain area after themselves and that a pack means little. In the West alone, it is 12 miles, in the East, the state capital, the city of Miller and the state Capitol.

On a clear day, the view extends to the Atlantic Ocean and the Great Lakes and the New England coast. Also visible are the mountains of the neighboring states of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine and Connecticut.

Miller is a carry-in / carry park, so you don't have to take your garbage home; it's free. The park is open from 9 am to 5 pm. M. on weekends and weekdays from 10 am to 4 pm. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children under 12 and $2 for seniors (18 and older) and children under 5.
