About Singletary Lake State Park

The group made a trip to Singletary Lake State Park, which is located north of the city of St. Paul, Minnesota, on Saturday, June 11, 2016.

In addition to group camping, Singletary Lake State Park offers numerous opportunities for nature studies and recreation. The park is designed primarily for organized group camping, but also includes a range of other activities such as hiking, canoeing, kayaking and fishing, as well as camping.

In colonial times, the region around Singletary Lake was settled and used for subsistence agriculture. It was used for the manufacture of naval bearings and named after Richard Singletsary, who received a scholarship from Bladen County in 1729.

The state government's interest in the Bay Lakes began when legislation blocked the development of seawater-covered land in Bladen, Columbus and Cumberland counties. Later, the General Assembly declared that the land between Singletary Lake and Bay Lake, as well as the bay itself, would remain the property of the state and be open to the public.

Due to the growth of the turpentine, wood, and cotton industries, Singletary Lake's human population has grown to about 1,000 people, mostly women and children. A large proportion of these people live around the lake, especially near the coast and the town of Bladen, and on the shores of Bay Lake.

The National Park Service has purchased part of the land around Singletary Lake through a government-funded work program. The federal government bought land for one of two projects in North Carolina at an average cost of $4.51 per acre.

The resettlement administration administered the land for three years, during which time the resettlers and residents built the Singletary Recreation Center, which included office, maintenance and recreation buildings. Local talent and materials were also used to build the leisure centre and other facilities with local talent and materials.

On July 1, 1939, the property was leased to the State of North Carolina, and when Singletary Lake State Park opened that summer, it was used by the same group and others who still use it today.

In October 1954, Singletary Lake State Park officially became the property of the state, and since then the park has played an important role in the region.

During the two world wars, the area was used for special training programs at the Air Defense School at Camp Davis, and during the 1945 floods along the Cape Fear River, the state park system cooperated with the Red Cross in disaster relief. Singletary Lake was also used as a refugee center during World War II and the Korean War. The camp offers a unique camping experience and creates the perfect setting to interpret nature, play and combine work, all in the comfort of your own home with nature and natural beauty, with a variety of activities and activities for children and adults alike.

Single rate Lake State Park features a number of hiking trails and trails for hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, camping, fishing and more.

At least 20 people must be in a group, and the group must also be part of a verifiable organization, with at least one member of the North Carolina State Park Service.

The Ipecac camp, built by the resettlement administration, accommodated 92 people and was open from April to October. The camp was named after the indigenous people of the Sierra Madre de Guadalupe in Mexico, and the dried roots extracted from these herbs were used for medicinal purposes.

Camp Loblolly Bay accommodated 48 people and was open all year round. It takes its name from a medium-sized evergreen plant that produces white flowers in summer and black flowers in winter.
The camp was accessible for the disabled and had halls, mobile homes, cabins and toilets, and the campers "equipment was equipped with food, cleaning products and bed linen.

The camp fire circuit has been made available, but the use of the group camp is only possible by appointment. The cabins were available for adults and children as well as families with children under 18 years of age.

Reservations for spring, summer and autumn are accepted until 1 January of each year and can be made until 1 September of the previous year. Please contact the parking office for additional reservation fees and information.

The CCC Carolina Bay Loop Trail is one mile from the pier and leads all the way back, or you can organize a group lesson. The CCCC CarolinaBay Trail, one of the most popular hiking trails in Singletary Lake State Park, can be organized for group classes. You can drive along the coast, past chewing gum poplars, through the forest and into the bay.

The Singletary Lake Program introduces students to the unique geology of Carolina's bays, and while camping in the park, you can take advantage of the recreational opportunities of this unique swimming lake. The programme is accompanied by a teacher's booklet and a workshop, which is free of charge for teachers. In grades 6-8, we develop students "knowledge and skills in science, mathematics, history, geography and geography. This is in line with North Carolina's expertise, based on the state's history and unique natural resources, as well as its cultural heritage.

The more than 500-metre long jetty is the perfect place for swimming and sunbathing. Relax in the beautiful cypresses that sprouted over 400 years ago, on the shore or on the sandy shores.

Swimming is only allowed for campers, and the bathing supervision must be taken over by a group leader. Lifeguards are not available, but campers can bring their own swimsuits, wetsuits, goggles, sunscreen and water shoes.

The lake can be a challenge for fishermen with yellow fish stocks, as fish stocks are low due to the acidity of the water. The public may fish in the lake as long as group camps are not used without the permission of park staff.

To access the park from Wilmington, head north on US 421 and turn left in Elizabethtown on NC 53 and head south on NC 421. Singletary Lake State Park is located on the east side of the freeway at the intersection of N.C. 53 and NC-421. The park entrance, which is marked by a large sign, is located on the right side of North Main Street, just south of US-421, about half a mile from the entrance.

To get to Singletary Lake from Fayetteville, take NC-53 40 miles east, continue east through Elizabethtown, then turn left onto US-421 and keep left at the entrance to the park, which is marked by a large sign.
