Although it is a small park, Nelson - Kennedy Ledges offers an exciting experience for visitors with its rugged cliffs, picturesque views and scenic views. These remarkable sandstone formations were formed by the erosive forces of the wind and freezing water and are one of the few foothills still visited. These large boulders, known as seepage blocks, have fallen, eroding the soft layers and leaving a more resistant layer to form the outcrop above. This soft rock layer has worn down over the years due to erosion, glacier erosion and other natural forces.

These tangled rocks and shady cliffs are home to a variety of wildflowers, trees and ferns. The Spring Wild Flowers Show shows the spring beauty of heather blossoms and trillions and shows the rare red trillion that grows in large numbers on the rocky outcrops.

Ferns, like the Christmas tree fern, grow in abundance as a protection from the roots and shadows of the canopy above. The canopy is also home to a large number of songbirds, although they do not inhabit any other area in the park, which is unusual in this part of our state.

Several large hiking and canoeing routes run through the area, and the park is located in the Ohio River and Lake Erie watersheds. Indian tribes, this area was of crucial importance to them as a source of food, water, shelter and shelter for the people of the region.

It became an important trading centre for the pioneers of the Indians and developed into important agricultural and dairy centres. Cheese production began almost with the arrival of the first settlers and was very popular in the area from the mid-19th to the early 20th century.

Until 1834, the markets in the south were controlled by cheese from Northeast Ohio and in the north by cheese from Northeast Ohio. Eventually, canal and rail traffic became more important, and cheese exports to the east and west of the US and Europe increased.

In the city of Hiram, west of the park, he was educated at the Hir College and was elected president of the college at the age of 26. The college opened in 1851 as the Western Reserve Eclectic Institute and was charter-certified in 1867. In 1886, the college was rebuilt and expanded into a four-year college with a full-time faculty of more than 200 students.

The Nelson - Kennedy region was always a popular holiday destination and was eventually under state protection. The state acquired land near Nelson Ledges in the 1940s and bought the area known as Kennedy Ledges in 1948. In 1948, Ohio State established Nelson and Kennedy Ledges State Park to preserve the area for future generations of Ohioans. The park is not only a great place for picnics, but also hosts a variety of wildlife such as birds, reptiles and amphibians, as well as a number of waterfalls.

The park also has barbecues, a variety of picnic tables and benches, and a number of outdoor picnic areas.

Tinker Creek State Nature Preserve is located next to Tinker Creek State Park and features extensive swamps.
