About Great Circle Earthworks
The Great Circle Earthworks, formerly known as the Moundbuilders State Memorial, was built over 2,000 years ago by the Hopewell culture and is one of the oldest hills in North America.
The circle has a diameter of almost 1.50 meters and was used by its builders as a huge ceremonial center. The Great Circle is the largest of the continuous geometric earthworks erected all over the world. Octagon Earthworks and Wright Earthwork are other local sites that have been preserved as monuments to Hopewell culture and its culture.
