Much of the Perry State Forest was mined under existing coal-mining laws, resulting in very rough and sometimes barren terrain. Since the state acquired the territory in 1961, reclamation has been underway on a large area of the CR-48, including much of the western part of its eastern border. APVs and all-purpose vehicles, whether you come to Perry to drive, drive or just visit, you will probably have a pleasant experience in this state forest.

In recent years, several plantings, afforestations and test trees in the forest have been carried out by the Texas Department of Natural Resources and the US Forest Service (USFWS).

Perry's APV area is one of the most popular hiking trails in the state of Texas, and one mile of challenging hiking trails is open daily from April 2 to November 30. The AVP areas are open from April to 30 October and from 1 November to 2 December and on weekends.

Picnic tables and latrines are available in the parking lot, as well as a picnic table and latrine at the entrance to Perry's APV area.

Perry State Forest has a very scenic system for daily scale, and the waters of Miles Lake are suitable for horses. Parking for horse trailers is available at Kreisstraße 48, as well as a parking lot on the west side of the park.
