About East Harbor State Park
East Harbor State Park is located on the shores of Lake Erie and offers unlimited outdoor recreation. Boating, fishing, swimming, picnicking and camping are popular, while nature lovers can enjoy waterfowl and other wildlife in the park's picturesque wetlands.
European settlement, the East Harbor region was home to the Ottawa and Wyandot Indians (Ottawa means "merchants" in their native language). An east-west trail ran along the southern shore of Lake Erie, connecting the settlements of Pittsburgh and Detroit, but also with the famous Scioto Trail in the south.
Under Indian control, this important area remained under Indian control until the Americans defeated the British and Indians in the War of 1812. After the Great Black Swamp was finally drained, the land became highly productive, with the creation of a large number of farms, mills and mills.
Fruits, especially peaches and grapes, were cultivated on a large scale and the grape culture was very successful, as were the cultivation of many other plants such as cotton, sugar cane and cotton wood.
The East Park on the Marblehead Peninsula is home to Johnson Island, a peninsula in the bay that was one of the most important sites captured by the Confederates during the Civil War. The Confederate Cemetery still stands on this island and is the site of a monument to the Confederate Army of South Carolina and Confederate General Robert E. Lee.
The development of East Harbor State Park led to the creation of the state park system in the early 20th century, and the recreation area has long been appreciated by the region for its natural beauty and scenic beauty.
Opened in 1947, the park is now one of the oldest state parks in Ohio and the largest state park system in the state. The campgrounds on East Harbor are some of the largest within the Ohio State Park system and each campsite is equipped with picnic table, picnic area, fire pit, water fountain and toilets. Pet camping is allowed on designated pitches, but only for dogs, cats, dogs and other pets.
Each group camp can accommodate up to 120 units, and each camp site can accommodate up to 10,000 people, with a maximum capacity of 1,500.
Two full-service mobile homes are available in the area for weekly rentals, and two camper cabins can also be rented for a total of $1,000 per week or $2,500 per month.
Lake Erie offers unlimited possibilities for horsepower boat trips, and beach concessions are available. Thousands of visitors come to East Harbor State Park each year for fishing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, hiking and other activities.
Boat and motorhome can be parked in the marina in a fenced-in enclosure all year round, and boats can be parked in it all year round. The marinas in the park offer a variety of amenities such as picnic tables, picnic areas, water parks, boat ramps, parking and multi-storey car parks.
Two spacious accommodations can be rented from the public, one for $1,000 a month and the other for just $500. The picnic area is located directly on the beach and is equipped with tables and barbecues, as well as picnic benches, picnic chairs and a barbecue.
The Middle Harbor Trail runs through East Harbor State Park, crosses many different habitats in the park and includes stops for birds - blind flights. The Middle Harbor Trail runs along the east side of the State Park from the beach to the coast and back, including a stop for a blind bird-watching flight.
Other trails along the beach offer opportunities to observe the flora and fauna of this beach community. Campers are invited to take leisurely evening walks along the East Harbor Trail, Middle Harbor Trail and other trails in State Park.
It is one of the few areas in the state where the endangered bald eagle is seen, and is known to be a frequent visitor to East Harbor State Park and other national parks in New Jersey.
The Magee Marsh Wildlife Area offers a variety of wildlife habitats, from birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds of prey to beavers, sea lions, bears, wolves, coyotes, foxes, elks, wild boars and more.
Here, controlled duck hunting is permitted and viewing platforms offer a unique view of the surrounding terrain. This hiking home, located in the Magee Marsh Wildlife Area on the east side of East Harbor State Park, is operated by the ODNR Wildlife Department and features displays of native species and information about the area.
Located on State Route 269, take StateRoute 2 West to State Route 269 North and State Road 2 East to East Harbor State Park. Several other state wildlife reserves are located in the Sandusky area, including Lake Erie National Wildlife Refuge, Lake Huron State Wildlife Reserve and the Great Lakes National Park System.
Take State Route 4 north to State Route 2, then go east on State Route 2 to East Harbor State Park. Take StateRoute 23 from State Route 4 and drive north along the east side of the park past the parking lot into State Park.
