About Brush Creek State Forest
The Brush Creek State Forest is located on the east side of Brush Creek in Shawnee County, Kansas, US State of Kansas and was founded in 1928 with the acquisition of 285 hectares of land.
Other early land purchases were originally part of the State Forest of Shawnees and other early land purchases.
As acreage and distance grew, it became clear that a separate state forestry unit needed to be established to properly manage the scattered land.
Named after the Scioto - Brush Creek area, the new state forest was established in the early 1950s. The Forestry Center and Service Center were built and still exist, as are several other facilities such as the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the State Forest Service.
Today, the Brush Creek State Forest covers an area of 1.5 million hectares, and the vast majority of these hectares are made up of Scioto - Brush Creek and its surroundings. Combined with the climate in the region, this country is ideal for the growth of deciduous forests.
