Cherry Springs State Park is as beautiful today as it was two hundred years ago, and the dark sky makes it a paradise for astronomers. The 48-acre State Park is surrounded by the name, but also offers some of the state's most spectacular views.

The Susquehanna Trail is nearby and offers 85 miles of hiking and backpacking trails, and Cherry Springs Airport is adjacent to the campsite.

In 1818, Jonathan Edgcomb set out from New Jersey into the wilderness of Potter County and settled in Cherry Springs State Park. He built a log cabin on Jersey Shore Pike, known as the Cherry Springs Hotel. The hotel was an extremely remote place; only Indians were on the road this year, not pike travelers.

Cherry Springs CCC Camp was one of ten CCCC camps set up in the Susquehannock Forest District. The forester oversaw the construction of buildings and roads, but the camp did little more than grow and store for a few years. Over the years, pine and hemlock trees have been felled in and around the Cherry Spring area.

Camp Elliott was founded next to Cherry Springs, named after District Forester Harry Elliott. This camp was supervised by the former Ministry of Forests and Water, but was not connected to the CCC camp. Unemployed college boys stayed mainly in the camp, and one of their achievements was the construction of a tent camp, dormitory, dormitory, laundry, and a boys "school.

There are 30 campsites near the landfill, all equipped with seating, picnic tables, toilets, showers, a fireplace and a picnic area for camping.

The campsites are closed in December and open on the second Friday in April, and the picnic area is located south of PA 44.

Another landmark of the area is the historic block pavilion, built in 1939 by the Civil Defence.

These unusual gazebos have a covered dining area with a fireplace surrounded by wooden slatted walls. The area is connected to the picnic area by a covered windscreen with picnic tables. Behind the pavilions there is an old apple orchard, where picnic tables and charcoal grills are available.

A single-lane mountain bike trail leads to the top of the hill and offers scenic views of Cherry Springs State Park. A hiking map is available on the park's website, Facebook page, Twitter and Instagram.

Over the years, Cherry Springs State Park has offered a variety of environmental education and interpretation programs for children and adults.

Visitors can get an idea of our natural and historical resources through guided hikes, excursions and other activities. This free program is available throughout the summer and is open to all ages, from children 5 years and up to adults. A public stargazing program will be presented by park educators and guest speakers.
