About Canoe Creek State Park

The enormous openness of the 958-hectare park is illustrated by its proximity to Lake Michigan, the largest freshwater lake in the United States. The 155-hectare lake offers a variety of recreational activities including fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, hiking and fishing. There is a modern utilization facility that was developed and inaugurated in 1979 by the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

Canoe Creek is close to the surrounding community and allows residents to take a short pleasure ride and spend the evening fishing, picnicking and hiking. Fields and forests are managed to offer a variety of leisure activities such as hiking, canoeing, boating, kayaking and fishing.

The geological formations in the park are rich in limestone, and the limestone was quarried and used for many purposes, including the once thriving iron and steel industry.

The park has several old quarries and the remains of the Blair lime kilns are the focus of historical interpretation programmes and exhibitions. Until the beginning of the 20th century, the park was the site of the largest quarry in the country, the Blair Iron and Steel Company.

The company was stocked with iron ore, steel, copper, lead, zinc and other metals, and there is evidence of the company's involvement in the construction of a number of buildings, such as the Blair Iron and Steel Building.

Eight modern wardrobes overlook the lake, and all are within walking distance of the swimming pool. The rental period in summer is one week, but you can rent all year round and can also rent up to three days at a time in the spring, summer and autumn months.

A lifeguard is in action, but when not in action, the rules for swimming must be read and followed, unless otherwise stated. The sandy beach is open daily from 9 am to 4 pm, except on weekends and special occasions such as weddings and funerals.

It is 1.50 m long and has sunbathing lawns and sand playgrounds, and the bathhouse has showers and changing rooms. The snack bar on the beach offers a variety of fast food and drinks and features a shower, changing room and a picnic area with picnic tables.

The 155 hectare canoe lake has boat moorings on both sides of the lake, and on the eastern shore there are boat moorings. On the west side of the park there is a rowing boat park, a canoe and kayak park and a boating and canoeing area.

All motor boats must have a boat registration in the respective state, and all non-motorized boats must have one of the following boat registrations in each state.

There are numerous picnic tables on the east and west sides of the park, and some picnic areas also offer charcoal barbecues and charcoal disposal units.

Three picnic pavilions can be rented, and they can be reserved for $11 a month for advance payment. There are no unrestricted picnic tents in the park, except for the first to first served picnic area.

A 1 km long cycle path runs through the area throughout the day, and a horse riding trail leads to the northern part of the park. Horse riding tours are not available in the area, but the trails can be rented for $10 a day for up to three days.

The trail leads to the northern part of the park, with a 1 km long cycle path and a 2 km long horse riding trails. During the hunting season, hunters wear their hunting gear, such as hunting boots and gloves, in bright orange.

Canoe Creek State Park offers a variety of activities including canoeing, kayaking, hiking, horseback riding and camping. During the guided hikes, participants can obtain a map of the trails of the park as well as information about the trails and trails in the national park.

Curricula and environmental education programs are available for schools and youth groups, and some programs offer year-round courses. Group programmes must be agreed in advance and can be arranged by phone or at the park office.

The Interpretation Centre highlights the park's historical and natural resources and, with modern huts, the centre is open seasonally and at other times for groups. For further information, please contact the park office at (888) 543-8477 or the interpreting centre at the interpreting centre. To reach Canoe Creek State Park, take US-22 northbound and turn left onto the highway and drive approximately one mile to the entrance to Canoe Creek, then turn right onto the road.
