S B. Elliott State Park is located in the heart of the Moshannon State Forest, and the fully wooded park offers scenic views of Mt. Pleasant, the largest mountain range in Pennsylvania. Huge white pines and hemlock trees once covered the mountain peaks, but at the turn of the century, railroad and road links were built to harvest wood.

Logging devastated the area and destroyed the magnificent pine and hemlock populations, but logging companies moved quickly to restore growth to the forest.

Eventually the devastated land was sold to the Commonwealth, usually for tax revenue, and the accumulation of land eventually became the Moshannan State Forest. Many of the logged roads and rails are still visible in the old stock. The Honorable Simon B. Elliott is the namesake of S B Elliott State Park, a state park in New South Wales, Australia.

In 1911, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania established the Clearfield Forest Tree Nursery on the mountain pasture of Penfield Mountain. Early conservationists encouraged the idea of establishing a nursery to grow trees for planting in the area, and in 1911 District Forester William F. Dague was born in the nursery, which was later renamed S. B. Elliott State Park, after his father Simon Elliott, an early advocate of conservation.

In 1933, the Civil Defence (CCC) built camp S-116 on a plot of land on the edge of the nursery and built the main building of the camp and many other buildings that still exist today. The Hague nursery was closed in 1978, but its buildings and facilities are still in use and seeds are still being supplied to other state nurseries. A plaque was erected in honor of the founder of the S. B. Elliott State Park, William F. Dague, by the former Department of Forest and Water in the early 1990s and placed in his honor at the park's entrance.

Six rustic cabins from CCC are available for rent and offer modern toilets, showers and sanitary landfills. Minimalist furnishings include a stove, hob with hob and hob, kitchen and bathroom with shower.

The campsite is open every second Friday from April to the end of December and the maximum stay in the area is three days, seven days a week. The toilets at construction sites seven are barrier-free and all sites serve first - come, come - serve.

The Quehanna Trail System offers a series of steps - marked trails from the top of the mountain to the summit of Mount Washington. The hiking trails lead to various places near the summit, where backpackers can walk up and down in less than one and a half hours and a total of three hours. Picnicking, hiking, fishing, camping and other outdoor activities are possible throughout the park and a delight for the whole family.

These paths also connect the Susquehannock Trail System and the community of Sinnemahoning, as well as a number of other paths in the area.

S B Elliott State Park is located in the Susquehannock Valley, north of the town of Sinnemahoning, Pennsylvania. The main parking lot is ploughed for licensed snowmobiles for unloading and operation. Snowmobiles can use designated trails and roads within the park, as well as a number of designated hiking trails. A map of the roads and paths open for snowmobiles is available at the park office.
