About Laural Ridge State Park

Laurel Ridge State Park stretches from Laurel Mountain to the picturesque Yougiogheny River in Ohiopyle, through Conemaugh Gorge in Johnstown, down to Laurel Mountain and then down - from the estuary, down into the water's edge and over the hill, past the Great Allegheny Mountains.

The main features of the park are the Yougiogheny River, Laurel Highlands Trail and Great Allegheny Mountain Trail. Most visitors come for hiking, but it stretches for 70 miles and offers overnight accommodation.

The Laurel Highlands Trail is open all year round but has been burned and is marked by blue flames at the roadside. The trail runs through the heart of Laurel Ridge State Park and the Great Allegheny Mountain Trail and is burned.

The distance to the monument is about one mile and large wooden signs mark the access roads and the major highway junctions. There are six parking spaces with up to 30 cars available at the starting point, each parking space has a voluntary daily entry level. Users are asked to fill in a registration form with their name, date of birth, address and telephone number.

There is no overnight fee, but please note the special $15.00 night policy. This area covers a total of 1,000 square meters of parking space for up to 30 cars per day.

A network of hiking, cycling, mountain biking and other outdoor activities is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm and from 8 am to 12 noon, from 4 pm to 4.30 pm and from 6 pm to 9.45 pm.

For cross-country skiers there are about 35 km of trails, some of which are located in the state forest itself. Snowmobiles are not allowed on the Laurel Highlands Trail and are restricted to designated trails. Please ask the park office if this section is suitable for skiing or if it is open for snowmobiles.
