About Laurel Hill State Park

The main feature of the park is the Laurel Highlands Trail, a one mile trail through the hills of Laurel Hill State Park. The path can be walked, cycled or driven and is open all year round, but it is burned and blue flames are marked along the roadside.

Large wooden signs mark the access roads and major highway junctions, and the number of kilometres of each monument is given in miles. There are six parking spaces with up to 30 cars available at the starting point, each parking space has a voluntary daily entry level. Users are asked to fill in a registration form and a parking permit for their vehicle, as well as a registration fee.

Overnight stays are subject to a charge and see special rule 15 for overnight stays. In this area there are a number of monuments, such as the Great Pyramid of Giza, Mount St. Helens and the Grand Canyon of the Americas.

The Laurel Hill Valley escaped the rampant logging that has permeated Pennsylvania longer than many other parts of the state. The steep valley and rugged hills made timber harvesting difficult until technology laid paths to haul trees to mills. Powerful and slow locomotives climbed the switchbacks of LaurelHill and hauled logs to the mills, but loggers cleared the trees of the park, leaving only a few hundred trees and a small number of trees in the valley.

The only area now designated as a Hemlock nature reserve escaped loggers and is now home to more than 1,000 trees and a small number of plants.

In 1935, the Federal Emergency Management Agency began buying farmland and forest land to make better use of it. In 1936, the National Park Service was given responsibility for recreation and demonstration areas.

From 1935, roads, paths, bridges and recreational facilities were built in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Forests and Waters. Laurel Hill was one of five Pennsylvania areas used for reforestation and organizing tent camps and all-day picnics.

On July 1, 1935, the Pennsylvania Department of Forests and Waters and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers arrived and began building a new campground for 200 young men in Laurel Hill State Park. They worked year-round as campers in the National Park, at the National Park Service campgrounds and other facilities.

In October 1945, the Interior Department transferred the project to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and Laurel Hill State Park was created. Hill comprises all CCC - erected buildings and structures that have been preserved with the highest integrity. The District covers the entire state of Maryland and the District of Columbia, making it the largest national park in the United States, covering more than 1.5 million hectares.

Facilities include a large cabin camp, a campground and eight cabin campsites, all of which have their own facilities for camping, hiking, canoeing, fishing and other activities. The largest camps are suitable for organized youth and adult groups as well as for families with small children and adults.

Laurel Hill Lodge is modern but has a lot of rustic charm and is located in one of the largest cabins of the campsite, right at the main entrance to the park. A large private terrace overlooking the bay trees of the park makes the lodge cosy and spectacular. Each cabin is equipped with its own amenities, including kitchen, dining room, bathroom, laundry, shower and laundry room. Registration is only possible through the parking office and parking is limited to a limited number of vehicles per day.

The two-storey lodge has a room that can sleep up to 14 guests in five double beds, including two futons, with private shower and bath. It has a large kitchen, dining room, bathroom, laundry and laundry room, as well as a shower room.

The hot water keeps you warm and comfortable in the whirlpool bath and in a private shower room with private bath and a shower cabin with hot shower.

You can rent a brick tent or you can accommodate up to six people in your tent, it has a refrigerator, a bunk bed, mattresses and electricity. Campers must bring their own food, water, clothing, toiletries and other items to run wild on the campsite.

The campsite is open from 8 am to 6 pm. M. on weekends and from 9 a., m. , until 5 p.m., weekdays and noon, until 4 p.m., Sundays.

The maximum duration of the camp is 14 consecutive nights and the occupancy of the accommodation is limited to five persons, each person lives in one household, including a responsible person under 18 years of age. Qualified and organized groups of adults and young people can use the 125 person campsite and the maximum duration of the campsite is 15 days, with a maximum of 12 days staying on the campsite.

The area is open all year round and has limited access to vaulted cabins, picnic tables, fireplaces and picnic areas. The zoning regulations require that a roster be submitted, fires be built only at designated sites, standing timber not cut down and trailers not allowed into the area.

The 1,200-foot long sandy beach is open all year round, except in the summer months of July, August, September, October and November. A lifeguard is on duty, but when he is not in action, the rules for swimming must be read and followed.

The maximum depth is five metres and the snack bar is not far from the beach, but not too close to the shore.

Laurel Hill Lake (63 hectares) has 30 berths and two boat moorings, and pedal boats, canoes and rowing boats can be rented on the beach.

All motor boats must be registered in the state, and all non-motorized boats must have one of the following boat registrations in each state: (1) Maryland, (2) Delaware or (3) Virginia.
Three picnic areas have 500 picnic tables, and four are located on the north side of the park, at the entrance to Laurel Hill State Park, which opens at 4 p.m.

The four picnic pavilions can be reserved for $11 per month plus an advance booking fee, and there is an unreserved picnic pavilion. There is a free parking lot on the south side of Laurel Hill State Park, but it will come first, served first and served first.

The 10 km pathway system in the park is connected to the Laurel Hill State Park pathway system by a 1.5 km loop. The trails are open to all registered snowmobiles, and the trails are connected by trails on the north and south sides of the national park.

Hiking maps are available at the park office, and a map of the trail system is available on the Laurel Hill State Park website and on Facebook.

The park offers a variety of environmental education and interpretation programs, and participants learn to appreciate the natural and cultural resources of the park through guided walks, excursions, interpretative events and other activities.

Curricula and environmental education programs are offered to schools and youth groups and these programs offer year-round.

The visitor centre is located in the beige farmhouse at the entrance of the campsite and a self-explanatory path leads to the Hemlock Trail.

You can access the park by driving 14 miles from the Pennsylvania State Highway System (PA-31) or I-76. Take Exit 110 from I / 76, turn left onto Trent Road and follow signs to Laurel Hill State Park. Turn left on PA 31 East and turn right on Hemlock Trail, then left again on the road to the footpath.
