About Ohiopyle State Park

Ohiopyle State Park, located primarily in Fayette County, serves as a gateway to the Laurel Mountains and covers an area of approximately 1,000 acres and is the gateway to the Laurens Mountains. Surrounded by the Ohiopyles Falls, it is a picturesque area with a variety of wildlife and a number of hiking trails. The area is home to many animal species such as deer, elk, coyotes, wolves and wild boar.

There are 226 campsites, 27 of which are more than a walk away, and the Kentucky CK Campground is open from early March to late December. A short walk from the vehicle to the campsite requires a two-hour drive from Fayette County and a one-and-a-half-hour hike from Ohiopyles Falls.

The campsites have electricity, hot water washhouses, toilets, washing facilities and picnic tables, fireplaces, parking spaces and much more are planned for the future.

To ensure the availability of the tents, a prior reservation is required and tents must already be set up and three platform tents set up. Tents have a maximum capacity of 2,000 square meters per person and campsite and at least 1,500 square meters.

Qualified groups of adults and young people can use the campsites, which are equipped with a fireplace, picnic tables, benches, chairs and other amenities. Groups can use space for up to 20 people for large gatherings in several locations.

The scenic Great Gorge Trail starts at the picnic spot and runs along the eastern edge of the park, which borders the Ohio River and is lined with scenic views of Lake Erie, Great River Gorge and the Appalachian Trail. The two picnic areas have picnic tables, benches, chairs, a fireplace and a picnic table. Both areas are open from 14 April to 14 December and from 10 am to 5 pm on weekends.

The hill parking lot borders the Youghiogheny River Trail, a popular trail for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling.

The park offers a variety of environmental education and interpretation programs, and the Curriculum for Environmental Education Program is available to schools and youth groups. The programme focuses on the history and ecology of the Youghiogheny River and its tributaries.

Participants will receive information about the park's natural resources, as well as guided hikes and other activities such as canoeing and snowshoeing.

Programs are offered from March to November, but group programs must be arranged in advance and can be arranged at the park visitor center or at a local park office. Group programs can also be organized in the spring and summer months and in the winter months.

Take exit 91 in Donegal west on PA Turnpike and follow it for eight miles to a stop sign. Turn left onto PA 31 East and follow the stop signs for five miles until you turn left and get straight to your campsite.

Turn left on PA 381 South and drive 10 miles to Normalville to the first stop sign and go approximately 2 miles. Turn left onto PA 31 East and follow it for 11 miles until you come to Ohiopyle and stop first.

Take Exit 110 in Somerset and take PA Turnpike East and PA 281 South for 25 miles to Confluence and take the exit at the first stop sign in Ohiopyle.

Drive two miles up the hill and turn right onto PA 281 South and continue nine miles to Ohiopyle and then turn left at the first stop sign on the right hand side of the road and proceed to the park entrance.

Take Exit 14 at Keysers Ridge for RT and take I-270 to Exit PA 281 South and then take the exit on the right hand side of the road and turn right.

Take the Bruceton Mills exit on RT Road and turn right onto PA 381 North, which will take you to Ohiopyle for 5 miles.

Turn left on PA 40 West in Farmington and turn right on PA 281 North, which becomes the PA border. Turn right off PA 381 North into Ohiopyle and then turn left at the Bruceton Mills exit onto RT Road.
