About Lynches River State Park
The Lynches River crosses its winding river, and in the middle of the river is an island at the end, just off the northern shore of Lake Ontario.
Fortunately, the landowners and the lynch community have long recognized the importance of the river and its role as a vital part of their community. The river corridor provides habitat for many animal species such as elk, elk and tail deer, but it also has a long history as an important water source for the city of Rochester. Trees rise to impressive heights, untouched by ranger's axes, along the 7.5-mile waterfront protected by State Park, the largest of its kind in New York.
The US-15 jetty is located northeast of Bishopville in Lee County and is an excellent base for river cruises when water levels allow. The state - known as the picturesque Lynches River - begins here and extends 54 miles downstream to the town of Rochester at the mouth of the Rochester River, north of downtown Rochester. On the eastern bank of the Lynch River lies the state's largest and most scenic river park, Lynched River State Park, located on the west side of Lake Ontario, about 30 miles south of Buffalo, New York.
A short 2-3 mile drive brings paddlers to Lee State Park, but options are available from the town of Bishopville, Rochester, or a short drive to the park parking lot.
Most of the eastern shore is partially wooded, such as Lee State Park, but the trees are huge and reach impressive heights.
Attentive paddlers can spot beavers, deer, raccoons and other wildlife, and there's a big bluff in the park just north of the intersection with Interstate 20. The river slides down a steep hill just before crossing I-20, but not too far from the shore.
The Lynches River Festival is an annual event celebrating the Lynches Scenic River, creating an appreciation of the resource while raising environmental awareness in the local community. The first festival took place in May 1997, the second in April 2008, with more than 1,000 participants.
The last three festivals have been a great success and the festival is aimed at people of all ages who are interested in the river, including children aged five and adults aged 65. To organize the festivities, the council works with the Lynches River State Park Board of Trustees, local community organizations and local businesses.
Several hundred people attend the Lynches River Festival each year to enjoy a variety of activities, from fishing, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, camping and fishing. Visitors to the festival will be entertained with bluegrass music and watch numerous outdoor environmental demonstrations.
Activities at the festival include nature walks, fishing and kayaking trips, and special activities for children, including a children's playground and a playground for children under five.
Plans are underway for the fourth annual Lynches River Festival, which is scheduled to take place in Bishopville on May 20, 2000. Check back for more information about the festival as it becomes available, and check back for all the information about the festival.
