About Cedars of Lebanon State Park

CEDARS Park in Lebanon State Park is named after the dense cedar forests that exist in the biblical land of Lebanon.

The park covers 900 hectares, which are used intensively for recreation, and a further 8,100 hectares are managed by the park department as a nature reserve. The area is surrounded by natural rock gardens called cedar meadows. In the 1940s botanists began to discover new species of trees and shrubs, as well as other plants and animals.

The water surface temperature fluctuates throughout the year, creating the perfect conditions for the formation of cedar meadows and for the growth of trees and shrubs. The clearing is crossed by limestone rocks, which come from thin or non-existent soils.

Many of the original settlers acquired the land in the early 19th century and handed it over to the family of John D. Rockefeller, the first US president. It is located on the eastern edge of Lebanon State Park, south of Lake Tahoe, California.

Lebanon was the closest city, and the early settlers called it in connection with this connection. The biblical name of the place, cedar, was suggested to the pioneers by the fact that the forest was actually made up of juniper trees, which the first arrivals thought were cedars. We think that this area is a huge "cedar forest" and that Lebanon is the nearest city.

The large hall is available all year round - by arrangement for private use on a fee basis, and the area can accommodate up to 250 people. Tables and chairs are available, as well as a large fireplace, which is available for public purposes and for special occasions.

There are vending machines for drinks in the building, and at one end of the complex there is a stage and a large outdoor amphitheatre with seats for up to 100 people.

Cedars of Lebanon has nine modern double berths, each of which can accommodate up to six people. Each cabin is fully equipped for home use and can be rented for a total of eight people with a maximum capacity of 12 people.

All cottages have a TV and a telephone is available nearby for a fee, and all cottages can be booked up to a year in advance. This eight kilometre trail winds through cedar clearings and is open all year round, and the trails are open all year round.

There are many opportunities for visitors to observe foxes, deer, squirrels, rabbits and turkeys, but do not forget to stay off the trail for your own safety. The path is decorated with flames that mark the trees along the path. Be aware of them before hiking and do not forget them when hiking.

Motorised vehicles are not allowed and open fires are prohibited along the route, but hiking maps are available at the park office.

During the summer months, conservationists and leisure managers organise daily activities, including guided tours of the park and activities for children and adults. The Nature Center, Merritt houses exhibits on the geology and natural features of this park. It is open daily from 8 am to 4 pm and from 5 pm to 7 pm, and on weekends from 6 pm to 9 pm. In summer the Nature Centre is open from 10 am to 4 pm, with an open day from 9 am to 5 pm.
