About Acton State Historic Site
The Acton State Historic Site is located in Hood County and is the smallest national park in Texas and one of the oldest state parks in the United States.
The park is named after Davy Crockett's second wife, who married in Acton, Texas, in 1815.
Although he fought in Texas and died at the age of just one, he was eligible for a state grant from his heirs. Mrs. Elizabeth Crocksett did not claim her scholarship until 1853, but in 1911 the legislature placed a monument to her at the Acton Cemetery. A 1949 law transferred the facility to the State Board of Control's control to the State Park Department, which is now the Department of Parks and Wildlife.
By that time, the land was already occupied by the Texas State Park Board of Control, a division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and half of it was left to a surveyor to find a section to claim.
The land is in Northeast Hood County, near Acton, and to reach it, drive up US 377 and the cemetery is on your right.
