About Lake Brownwood State Park

Lake Brownwood State Park, one of the largest state parks in the United States, was acquired by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (now the National Park Service) in 1934 and opened as a state park in 1938.

Using wood and native stones found throughout the park, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) built many of the structures we use today in the early 1930s from Lake Brownwood wood wood wood and other natural resources. The park is located on a 7,300-acre reservoir created by the US Army Corps of Engineers (now the National Park Service). Popular fish are cappie, perch, catfish and perch, and it provides a natural environment where white and tail deer, elk, elk, coyotes and other wildlife can be observed.

Attractions in Brownwood include the Lake Brownwood State Park Museum, a Natural History Museum and a visitor center. The park is located within the park and is one of the largest state parks in the United States with a total area of 7,300 hectares.
